5 cars? Wow, your insurance bill must be $. I've heard NJ policies are pretty outrageous.OceanCityGirl wrote:nope, that's the biggest reason I sold it. Right now I have five cars on my insurance policy and i'm in NJ. It's ridiculous. That's the main reason MrOc couldn't convince me to keep the old mustang when we got the new one. He really couldn't convince himself.Hockey Mon wrote:You probably won't but don't forget to call your insurance company and take the car off your policy. Also, if you pay any sort of county tax, you should notify the county you sold the car so they don't hit you with a tax bill for next year.OceanCityGirl wrote:Because he made me a bit nervous I'm turning in the tags right away. Then it's on him to tag it since I've got proof I've sold it and surrendered the tags.

We buy and sell cars pretty regularly....I think this is one of the hubby's hobbies. His dad was a mechanic for decades and he learned how to fix almost anything on a car. We sold a VW once years ago.....the guy came back a couple of weeks later and wanted his money back because the motor blew up. Everybody has the option to have their mechanic look at the cars first. If something is wrong with the car, we say it....we're very honest. We had no idea the VW had anything wrong with it, but we also had no idea of how the guy drove the car after he got it from us.

There's many reasons why a used car from a private seller is typically a fraction of the cost of a brand new car.citcat wrote: We sold a VW once years ago.....the guy came back a couple of weeks later and wanted his money back because the motor blew up. One of them is that anything can happen at any time, with no warranty protection or other recourse.
That's just one of the risks one takes when saving big bucks on the used instead of new car.
In the long run, the used car buyer will still come out way ahead.
But, he/she better be prepared to accept the ocasional consequences.
