Gas price rant

Post by Alan11 »

We all know how much of a pain in the arse high gas prices are but I have never seen such crap as I have in the last 3 days in Roanoke, Virginia where I live. If this has happened where you live feel free to add to the rant.

Wed night fill up my wife's CR-V 2.78 a gallon
Thursday morning on the way to work still 2.78
This morning (Friday) on the way to work 2.85
Lunch (Friday) 2.99
7pm (Friday) 3.09

Even when Katrina hit in 05' gas ever got above 3.15 here. Memorial weekend isn't til next week and I bet anything it will be 3.25 then.

Dude I just had to pay 3.49 and thats the CHEAPEST out here. Let me guess-- your cartons of smokes are probably under 25 bucks too.

I bet by next week we will be at 3.70 by next week sometime.

I will say what I say to everyone up here from Boston where I have an office to Nantucket where I live . . . stop driving so much . . . or car pool . . . or use public transportation . . . or ride a bike . . . or learn how to drive a motocycle that gets 65 - 80 miles a gallon (roughly) . . . or move closer to work . . . don't take as many weekend road trips . . . fly (sometimes cheaper: example Providence, RI to Philly - 68 dollars round trip) . . . or just deal with it; people complain too much about gas prices and do nothing about it.

AND stop using Exxon/ Mobil as the set the market . . . use anyone else and prices will drop . . . seriously.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

This is true.

I still can't get over how people complain about high gas prices, but nobody EVER complains about the Ionospheric prices of cars.
And don't write, CALL your elected leaders and DEMAND refinery output be increased NOW, and demand more reineries be built NOW.
We don't need Cub Cadets that run on whale sh*t by the year 2030 to solve this problem, we need more refinery capacity NOW!
NOW!
NOW!
NOW!

If our refinery capacity was the same now as it was in 1981, it's a FACT that the price at the pump would be less than $2.00 per gallon.
So we only have ourselves to blame.

That, and the fact that in Kuwait and Jordan, gas is five-nine cents per gallon. You'd think after all we've done for THOSE ungreatful bast--ds, they'd GIVE us oil.
Maybe it's time to make it happen.

Couldn't agree more . . . I do believe the Exxon/ Mobil thing would work but that is not the long and short of it. I have neighbors out here on a tiny island who drive Land Rovers . . . daily . . . and gas out here approaches 5 bucks a gallon for premium; just don't get it.

If the price of oil had kept pace with the rate of inflation for the last 30 years we'd be paying even more than we are right now. The price was kept artificially low for too many years and we got spoiled.

True, but I can easily live WITHOUT milk.
I guess I could live without gasoline too, if I wanted to walk 15 miles one way to work every day.
And, considering the way my clothes keep shrinking at an accelerated rate, maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing. :-?

$3.49 here.

I miss Racetrack. We live there while in FL. Fuel up, feed the kids, fully hydrate them for 99 cents, use the clean restrooms, purchase cold beer and ice, fast moving lines.

Actually while staying in Cocoa Beach we have made many a trip to the Merritt Island Wal-Mart, and were very pleased with the service!
I always find that everything is better in FL!

I'll agree that everything is better in Florida-I've been there many times (and will be in November), and LOVE the place.
I love Wal Mart too, but everytime I go there, I keep thinking I should take a sack lunch and a sleeping bag with me.

It's 1217 miles (17 1/2 hours) from our driveway to the Racetrack on Sand Lake Road near the Orlando Airport.
Leave after school, fuel stop #1 in Kentucky, #2 south of Atlanta, and #3 at the Racetrack. One quick rest area bathroom stop between each fuel stop.(porta-potty helps)
It's always early in the morning, and I'm sleep deprived.
Racetrack takes care of all our needs.
Stop at the storage place across the street to pick up all our stuff, and make the weather based decision on Cocoa Beach or the Keys.
If it's the beach, Cape Canaveral Racetrack will be a stop on any trip to the Port for a fishing adventure.
The kids got upset anytime we went to a non-Racetrack gas station, so I stick with what makes us all happy.

That's the beauty of Wal-Mart--you don't have to!
They have sleeping bags AND food right there, if you need it, they got it!

15 miles to work . . . 30 round trip . . . slightly over a gallon a day I guess . . . 3.00$ a day is a steal! If only the rest of the world had it so good. I spend alot of time in Ireland; now they have a right to complain.
