Airplane Crash Scare

Post by palmettopirate »

Late Wednesday a WWII Stearman crashed in Charleston harbor killing the pilot and passenger. Thew plane flew out of John's Island Executive Airtport. The victims weren't immediately identified. But there was and is a lot going on in town right now, the tall ship festival, Spoleto, and 2 pro golf tournaments. Jimmy was in town this time last year so I began to fear the worse. My computer was on the blink so I had to wait until the next day to do some searching and found out that Jimmy was not here. He'd been in Augusta for some time and then flew to Palm Beach and then to Exuma. Whew!!! You may remember that John's island Airport is where Groovy crashed near. I guess I just didn't like all the connections. The victims have now been identified.

Hi Connie,

Post by palmettopirate »

The victims were identified in today's paper. The pilot used to fly sabres. I hate mentioning names here since someone may be connected. Witnesses say the plane just flipped over. It was extremely windy. He was flying low. He had taken the plane over the harbor to help celebrate some Medal of Honor thing going on at the Yorktown aircraft carrier. I was over at The Ocean Course at Kiawah on Wednesday watching a practice round for the Senior PGA Championship and the wind was brutal. It was actually blowing sand out of the traps.

It was just strange, especially remembering that he was here with his Stearman doing the Trip Around the Sun video with Martina a few years ago. Again, too many connections.

This is such a sad story. I went to school in Charleston and I remember seeing him fly that plane.
I've read dozens of books about heros and crooks and have learned much from both of their styles.
