Nice interview with Mac in last week's Birmingham Weekly:

To borrow a baseball term, Mac McAnally could be considered music’s foremost utility man. Best known these days as a guitarist/vocalist in Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, McAnally has also built a career as a solo artist, songwriter, producer, session musician and touring sideman. A dual resident of Muscle Shoals and Nashville, Tenn., McAnally is content performing various roles in his career.

“For my personal taste, I am really blessed that I wasn’t born with the ambition of trying to be a household name,” McAnally says, speaking by phone from his Nashville home. “It’s always been about music to me. I like to chase what I hear in my head and get that as good as I can get it.

“I also like to be of use to my friends and Jimmy’s been a great friend over the years. He has some of that ambition that I’m missing. It’s nice to help him keep the rudder in the music side of things and that’s my purpose. He jokes that I keep him in touch with his white trash roots.”
