Is Jimmy missing a marketing opportunity?
I am sitting here listening to the concert replay and enjoying it. however, it got me to thinking, is Jimmy missing a money making venture by not having these concerts availalbe for download for like $1.99 each? or do you think he has already explored it and realized its not worth it? would you pay for the concerts?
if you cant laugh at yourself, laugh at someone else.

I don't think Jimmy misses too many marketing opportunities.
RM and the concert broadcasts create an interest in his product, attracting fans who then go out and buy concert tickets & cds, eat at Margaritaville, etc. I think it's neat he's one of the few artists in a position to "give away" concert broadcasts for free, and not have to worry about not selling out the show.

This is perhaps Jimmy's only missed marketing opportunity to date.
I am still waiting for Jimmy's people to contact my people so we can work this out.

Re: Is Jimmy missing a marketing opportunity?
He did this for a few shows in 2003. They were available for d/l on iTunesdoxadive wrote:I am sitting here listening to the concert replay and enjoying it. however, it got me to thinking, is Jimmy missing a money making venture by not having these concerts availalbe for download for like $1.99 each? or do you think he has already explored it and realized its not worth it? would you pay for the concerts?
Most of the shows since RM started up are available on CD. If you
look around in the Trading forum you can find them or just record the shows yourself and then you have it

Totally agree. If you can't find it in the trading forums, sites, whatever, it'd be nice to be able to buy one.doxadive wrote:i agree with him playing the music for free and unless you have the set up its tough to record the concerts, but after listening to one it woudl be nice to be able to say "hey, i really enjoyed that show and would like a cd of it"
On that note if there's a copy of the 97 Kansas City show floatin' aroudn out there shoot me a pm.

I would say he's missing it, but I'm sure his businesspeople realized that by putting these concerts on iTunes or Mailboat.com for download, it would take away a big chunk of the attraction of Radio Margaritaville, which now has to worry about satisfying Sirius.
Jimmy may like to "steal from himself", but in this one case it would be bad business for him and could even jeopardize his deal with Sirius.

I'm sure his business people realize that Mailboat runs on Slow Boat time...and by the time they got it posted for download there would be little interest (as most interested folks download/burn from RM or Sirius). Of course, they could just be getting around to posting the '97 KC show!trojan_sixtyone wrote:I would say he's missing it, but I'm sure his businesspeople realized that by putting these concerts on iTunes or Mailboat.com for download, it would take away a big chunk of the attraction of Radio Margaritaville, which now has to worry about satisfying Sirius..
Like a previous poster said...DVD releases of LIVE BY THE BAY and MARGARITAVISION and other such material are where they are missing the boat.

Agree on the DVD's. Isn't the biggest feature business is focusing on today is options for consumers? Reading in Fast Company magazine this month that Disney started to offer downloads in iTUnes- so far over 21 million downloads with almost $42 MILLION DOLLARS (think Dr. Evil there) in revenue. I'd buy the concerts for $1.99 gladley. NExt time I'm stuck in an airport or a long flight, I have the choice what concert I want to go to..cause, "I wish I was someplace rather than hereMikeInNOLA wrote:I'm sure his business people realize that Mailboat runs on Slow Boat time...and by the time they got it posted for download there would be little interest (as most interested folks download/burn from RM or Sirius).
