Trying to reason with the fact that Hurricane Season is here

Post by Nole Pirate »

Hurricane season begins tomorrow.

For you people in Florida, tomorrow also begins the Hurricane Supply Tax Free Holiday. From tomorrow until 12 June you can purchase certian items for tax free. Go get stocked up so I don't have to here people complain to the government that they were lazy and didn't prepare and expect the government to provide for their every need.

Is rum tax-free? That's definitely a necessary supply. :pirate:

Here's to a non-lethal hurricane season. Image

sadly, while it is a necessity, and no good hurricane kit should be without it, it is still taxable.

I thought it was Fritos and beer?!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

They're saying it's suppose to be a busy season, but we've heard that before and its been a quite one. I'm hoping they're wrong again. And yes, rum should be tax free!
I've read dozens of books about heros and crooks and have learned much from both of their styles.

Lots of dire predictions last year too, let's hope this hurricane season is no worse than last summer.

Well not all the legislatures along the coast are as forward thinking as Florida. :)

the big thing in the houston area today is emphasizing who should and should not evacuate when we get the next threat. people evacuated with rita who should not have....which made it more difficult for those of us who had to evacuate.

the media is promising not to scare people like they did last time. yeah right

Saw a piece on CNN this morning about how Cuba is the model for hurricane preparedness. A very efficient evacuation plan which is actually practiced in the spring. Ivan hit them hard a few years back, but they had zero fatalities. Mostly it's because everybody gets the same message at the same time from the gov't. about what to do and when.

I saw that too. Pretty much the gov't takes no crap when it comes to evacuating and you do what they say or else. The fatalities wouldn't be because of the hurricane, that's for sure.

Yeah you and I both know that isn't happening. The local guy here in PC starts ramping up the coverage the minute a cloud appears in the Atlantic. It might be 3 weeks off from us, but he makes sure it is something we keep an eye on.
