I hate . . . Salt, salt, salt. I don't remember when, but I remember the first time I heard it and went . . . "what the F**k?"
But in America you can do what you want, I choose not to!

I've always wondered how many "Pa's" were sung in "Surfin Bird".

btw, to answer (kinda) the question. i've been going since the seventies, missed a few shows in the late 80's and then heard it for the first time either at William & Mary in '90 or Charlotte in '91 (I think) :-?

I think the first time I heard it was in the early 90s..... I recall it at the ice palace in 92.... but not the year before for some odd reason....

I remember, probably back on the Beach House tour or possibly the Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays tour, the video screens would flash "SALT" "SALT" "SALT". Was this common practice earlier in the 90's or was it more vocally led by the band?

Perhaps it originated from the same dude who added "Get Laid, Get F*##ed" on the song "Mony, Mony"??

First time I heard that was at a Notre Dame/Saint Mary's formal in Chicago... the whole room seemed to know that line... but it sure surprised me!
