We went to Tampa concert with a huge amount of adults on a bus and all 4 of my children stayed home.
They were not happy about it.
So, we decided to let them have their own "Tiki Party" while we were away.
They played Buffett music...had decorations...all sorts of food and fun.
Sure, they missed the show (and many since!) but they always talk about their tiki party!
Plus, I never wanted to take my children to a concert because I didn't want to have them hear WDWGDAS! But, he's not playing it lately!

My 19 y/o likes metal.... I'd consider taking him so he could drive and I could have a couple extra boat drinks, but he wouldn't be caught DEAD at a JB show...Migration Michelle wrote:Well said...plus who is going to explain to my children why I've had too many LandSharks!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Buffett shows are my time.... And it is way past their bedtimes!
hmmm..... but he needs money..... maybe I could pay him to sit in the lot and keep an eye on all our stuff.... and it'd be cheaper than buying him a ticket..... HMMMMM.......

Just my opinion, but when we went to see Jimmy at Wrigley, I so wished I had brought my keets. They were a bit older than yours, but I wished they could have shared the experience with us. I was in awe and yes, there were some things that were not thngs that some people think children should see, but for the most part, it was an awesome experience that I wish I could have shared with them.
If you want her there, take her.
This is spoken by a woman who takes her kids to DisneyWorld frequently from birth - each time they go, it's like a new experience for them and there is nothing like seeing something through a child's eyes over and over - so now you know how my brain works.

We were seriously considering taking our 6 yr. old this year, and when I realized WDWGDAS had been dropped from the set list, wished I had. But then an administrator from her school was a few seats away ... it would have definitely put a cramp in that person's night! Moms and Dads can keep their mouths shut about what they see @ JB, but a 1st grader's bound to talk.
Anyway, the funny thing was, when my keet found out she wouldn't be chatting it up with "Uncle Jimmy" before or after ... and not dancing onstage w/the hula girls, she was more keen on going to her choir concert rehearsal and spending a fun evening w/the babysitter.
I think most of us who have little ones are just worried Jimmy won't still be touring when they're of the "appropriate" age to attend a show.
Thank goodness Margaritaville Biloxi will be in semi-close proximity!

We took our keet to her first show when she was nine & we all had a blast. And to all the other shows we went to except Atlantic City. We have an rv so she can get out of the sun or watch a movie for a bit or something. It's also nice 'cause it has a nice private bathroom. We also bring goodie bags, as prizes, so she can play a trivia game w/any other keets we see. Usually around 4 she'll take a nap so she's ready to dance and sing along during the show. We all have fun and don't crimp anyone's else's fun either. As for Atlantic City, there wasn't any real tailgating, so Mom & Dad did the bar crawl. Now that's no place for a keet. She was at Grandmas' & listened on Radio Margaritaville. Next show we are going to, she's coming along. Bringing our keet works great for us but it may not for everyone. If you think she's ready, bring her. & have fun !!

I'm going to go back and try to answer the original question, since I think the thread has deviated a little. You said you're last show was at Southampton College. That is a much different show than seeing him in an amphitheater or stadium. I think everybody has a different age that is appropriate to bring the kids. In almost every Buffett video whether it be the Here We Are video or Live at Wrigley or Fenway, you always see little kids, so there are parents out there willing to do it. You wouldn't be so unique in that sense. If you do decide to bring you're kid to the show, you just have to be aware that there will be excessive cursing, people getting drunk (and all the "effects" that come with it, especially the bad ones), and smoking, among other things. There's gonna be boob flashing in at least in the Changes parking lot video, if not around you in the parking lot. If you're fine with that and you think your child can handle it, who's to say you can't bring her?
That being said, you are gonna miss your kid at the concert. You have every right to question it since as you said, Buffett might not be touring much longer, and you want your kid to experience it. One last question to ask is, is she a parrothead? It sounds silly, but does she ask to hear Buffett played in the car? Does she love watching the DVDs? Does she love doing "Fins?" Does she really like Jimmy, or do you want to share an experience that you love so much with her more? Unless you can really definitively answer yes, maybe it's not such a great idea.
PS. Just some background, I've been going to concerts since I was 12 or 13, and my younger brother since he was 10 or 11.

Exactly! Just my 2 cents, but I think if you can't keep your keet comfortable and let them have a fun day too, maybe they should be at Gramma's house, or somewhere..... Kudos to you, Al, for deciding what works (and what doesn't) in different venues for your family!jonesbeach10 wrote:But not everyone has the luxury of bringing an RV.
