Post Nissan Show Venting

Post by allucaneatbuffett »

Ok, I am a bit depressed
I had tickets in section 101 for the Nissan Show. We were all fired up for the last few months. Us 4 guys played golf in the morning, while the girls got all the food, coolers, and stuff ready for the tailgate at Nissan.
We came home around noon, showered, and left around 2:00 from Annapolis. This trip usually takes a little over one hour to Nissan.
Well, it took us 3 hours to get there. Backed up traffic, accidents everywhere, etc.
By the time we got in, parked, got set up, we had less than 2 hours to tailgate. The weather was crappy, then it started raining hard on the way in.
Ok, so at least we had the show to look forward too. But for some reason, I feel a bit empty. Like I didn't get my money's worth. It seemed to go by way to fast. Probably b/c he didn't take a break during the show.
I was also p*** b/c his "on the road again" song by Willie sucked. He forgot half the words and the band sounded awful. Actually he sounded lame and of beat for about the first 3 songs. Then I have to listen too that Elvis song which I hate.
I just don't know why he doesn't play what his best stuff. Why have that Elvis song, and a few others that are terrible?

Anyway, just venting b/c we all felt like we didn't enjoy the show. I have been going for 15 years, and this was not one I will mark as one of the best for sure.

Anyone else go to Nissan who feels the same?

At least I have Vegas in October.

I thought the setlist was great. However, I do agree with you on the drive! we were in the same boat. We left from Baltimore...usually and hour and 15 min drive or so that took about 3.5 hours! By the time we had eaten there was no time to walk around the lots. Plus we had packed a tone of food since we planned on being there longer and when we were trying to kill the last of it after the show and the Prince William County police came and booted us out of the lot. Although traffic took away from the experience, Jimmy still put on a great show, and even though good weather is ideal for any concert...I had a blast in the rain on the lawn!

Teach the rest of us guys this trick. If I could pull this off with my wife I swear I would never complain again. :D

I've always planned on a 3 hour trip from Potomac to Nissan and if it takes less time I consider it a bonus. Most posters this year have expressed surprise that their commutes were much better in and out of Nissan than years past.

Nope. Thouroughly enjoyed myself and I didn't even get to play golf while my womenfolk did all the pre-show prep work.

I'd rather have been at Nissan than working a 15 hour day.... didn't even get to listen on RM.....

We left early from Alexandria, Va because Nissan traffic is known to be terrible. We didn't have that much of a problem getting in. Then we tailgated for a few hours, which was probably one of the best I've ever had. Then we walked inside and sat on the LAWN, which got a lot wetter than under the pavilion when it rained. And we still had a blast!! I enjoyed every second of the show. I'll probably only get to see Jimmy once this year, and I loved it. Instead of concentrating on the few negatives, just enjoy the show because you don't know if it will come back around.

Maybe if you had not played golf you would have been there at a reasonable hour. Ever heard of trying to do a little too much?
Why would you let a round of golf screw up a FULL DAY of tailgating??? You can always play golf...Jimmy's in town for you guys once a year. :-?

I'm getting a little sick and tired of listening to people complain about the set lists.

When you buy a ticket to a Jimmy Buffett concert, there is no guarantee you will get to hear EVERY single song that you like...and be spared the songs that you "hate."

The man is 60 years old and still playing music for all of us to enjoy. He can sing whatever he likes.

And I'm quite sure he wasn't thrilled to be playing in that disgusting weather...but he did and he did it well.

And if he wasn't perfect for a few songs, so be it.

Don't buy a ticket if you're going to sit around and complain. There are millions of people who will buy the tickets and be COMPLETELY happy at the concert surrounded by thousands of other happy people.

Count yourself lucky that you were able to go at all. You sound like my children who complain about what dinner I serve them after I slave all day to make it for them!

It was a GREAT set list, Jimmy. GREAT concert. Too bad I wasn't there.

Heard a great story about the (very!) old days, when it rained on a show.... POURING rain.... Most of the audience left and there were only about 3000 people braving the weather (like I said... the VERY old days).... The band wasn't into it; they'd have preferred not to play at all... but one of the band members said, "Hey, but there are still 3000 people who want to hear us play. Let's go out there and give them a good show." And it turned out to be a competely awesome, high energy show.....

Okay, back to watching people kvetch... Anyone bring popcorn?

Isn't it? :D I heard it from someone (non-band) who was backstage at the time and saw it happen.

It must be a little handy to have backstage friends!!

It just goes to show you that the band members are VERY devoted to their jobs and their fans. :) :)

People should really stop griping and complaining. I would be very disappointed if I were Jimmy. It is disheartening to hear people complain all the time. (Do I sound like a worn-out mother with all the kids home from school?!)

Sure, he makes a lot of money...but he deserves it. It's not all fun and games. He has long, hard weeks. Traveling around like that is tough.

And he is always so appreciative of his fans! 8) 8) 8)

Well, it would be handy, but I don't have any... I heard the story recently from someone who was backstage at that particular show long ago, but isn't generally. :)

Here we are out in California with no concerts to b**** about.

Take a time out dude and think about the very near future when the music, the set list, all the covers you b**** about, the traffic and tailgaiting will only be memories. It's a strange feeling not having a concert to look forward too.

I had a similar concert experience last year in Atlanta. We were really late leaving home b/c I had (as usual) crammed too much into my day. Traffic was worse than awful, there were severe thunderstorm warnings and then a disabled Marta train ahead of us turned a 10 minute ride into a 30 minute one. Since the weather was so bad, they started on time and played right through. We missed something like the first 5 songs!! And then we were in line for the Marta bus at 10:15 pm. I didn't blame anyone but myself, and I learned a valuable lesson. This year we were on the road EARLY, met some great fellow parrotheads before-hand and had a BLAST! Since I usually only go to one or two shows a year, from now on, concert day is concert day!

As far as the set list goes, even after 17 years, there's always something new or a new spin on something I love, like APL@40/Redemption Song this year. Last year he was so into WGCOCS ... I got goosebumps! I've come to realize that I want Jimmy to sing whatever HE wants to sing, 'cause when he's into it, it's dynamite, whatever it is!

I've been to a couple of shows where, for whatever reason, it wasn't a spectacular event.... Something personal happened, or it rained, or the trip in took way too long, whatever....

But at the end of the day -- hello -- I had still been to a Buffett concert....

Nissan is KNOWN for it's notorious long traffic lines to get into the venue. If you didn't get there in time to tailgate it's your own fault.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
