Tappan Zee Bridge

for all us New England Parrot Heads who traveled down to Atlantic City and back over the Tappan Zee Bridge:

According to the Boston Globe a fiery tractor - trailer crash closed the Tappan Zee Bridge yesterday (Sunday, July 1st) killing the truck driver and prompting the state officials to check the span for possible structural problems. The Tappan Zee serves as a gateway to both NYC and New England from the Mid Atlantic . . .

Most us got over the bridge on our way home before this tragic accident. Although my heart goes out to the family of the truck driver I can honestly say that I am glad to not have to sit out there on the highway for the 7 hour back up this accident caused.

I would suggest either 95 though the city (crazy I know) or 84 to 87 on the other side of the river.

I'll probably take the Parkways to the GW Bridge. Except I'll get there about 5:00PM.... :-? :-?

When are you driving . . . the Tappan Zee might be fine . . .

I think it was shut down for extreme precautions . . . I know they are letting traffic through but not sure how many lanes . . . might be better than NYC at rush hour

Where are you headed......if you are getting onto the Garden State...you could go 84 to Newburg and pick up 87/287...not much longer and a easier drive...i've done it in the past to avoid NY traffic!!

I think 81 hits 84 near the PA/NJ/NY border. If it does, you can take 81 South from there into PA.

normally I'd take the Tappan Zee to 287 to 78, but if it's not fully open I'll probably go 84/81. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
