Least favorite of all the albums. Always thought it sounded like a forced album. Had to meet a deadline and just put anything out there to get an album out. However, there are a couple on it I like, namely Semi-true story and Pacing the cage.

Can I choose "none of the above" - a complete mess of a CD, down to those ridiculous boots Jimmy is wearing on the cover.

I've found myself listening to this song a lot lately, it's one of those covers where it's as good, if not better then the orginal.

In the world of covers, it might be one of the best he's done. That's just my opinion I could be wrong

I like Pacing the cage. I guess that's what I feel like I'm doing most of the time. I guess that's why I like it so.

in my opinion this is the weakest effort outside the first two albums. i went with beach house on the moon. its a great story that i thnk one day when im a father will be even more special. pacing the cage is fantastic but its not his song. i also do like i dont know and i dont care and think it would be a good opening song for the show!

pbans wrote:Here's my Beach House on the Moon story..........

When my Mom was sick, I was her care giver.....not her primary care giver, her only care giver......one day I snapped.....just couldn't do it for a while...took of in the car and this cd was in the changer.....for some reason, I couldn't get it to eject and I couldn't make it forward to another cd.....this was never one of my favs and I didn't want to listen to it.....or so I thought. So I drove around for about three hours listening to this cd....alternately smiling, laughing and crying......when "Pacing the Cage" came on.....it touched my heart in a way I can't explain.....and it helped me come to a place where I understood what my Mom was going through.....that she was truly pacing the cage waiting for the outbound stage.....her body had failed her and she was waiting for release......she truly had lived too long.
Two days after this she died......the next time I drove the car, the cd changer worked just fine.

I used the lyrics of this song for the eulogy and closed her funeral service with it......I still rarely get through it without tearing up.....I know it's a Bruce Cockburn song......but to me it is and always will be 'a Buffett song'.

Now I love BHOM and I listen to it a lot.......Permanent Reminder is my other fav from this one.....

Probably way more story than you wanted..........but that's my story.....

What a great story. Amazing how a song can have an effect on a person. I think of it as a "Buffett Song" also...

I was listening to a couple of tracks on this album on my way in this morning. "Pacing the Cage" has always been my favorite song from this album, I think it's has good a cover tune as the orginal. Now with all the BS going on in my life, it means more to me

I've always found it amazing that he'll have great songs on an album and then have really bad ones on it as well. It seems to be more of a 1990s and Twenty Hundreds thing. For instance, Fruitcakes - the album is frontloaded with great songs. Then he puts Vampires on there?

With BHOTM it's got some great songs, the title track, Pacing The Cage, Gumbo - and then he's got total garbage like IDKAIDC and Math Suks.

"It's a semi-true story
Believe it or not
I made up a few things
And there's some I forgot.
But the life and the tellin'
Are both real to me
And they run like the rain
All the way to the sea.
Semi-true stories."
