I have never said that they shouldn't be punished. Personally I think they got off light. This is no more than a slap on the wrist. Which is actually very telling about the state of affairs in the entire NFL. If this was a blue moon occurence, and only the Pats were doing it I think it would have been much harsher, espcially since they had been caught before. I think that this is simply a wake up to teams that overt spying on signals will not be tolerated. Note that both instances of the Pats spying were at away games.
I thik that the majority of the non-Pats fans are really sour grapes. Like the Eagle player saying that they really won the Super Bowl and that the Pats should forfeit all of their games. I think a little intellectual honesty is warranted. Like when LT complains about trash talking and then looks the other way when his team does it about the Bears.
Guilty of doing what EVERY OTHER TEAM does AT HOME because they have the run of the stadium and can place cameras ANYWHERE. There was a panel on ESPN this morning (Tiki Barber and others) who said: ALL TEAMS DO IT.
I hear that kind of logic from my 8 y/o son. Not buying it.
If it's against the rules, it's against the rules.
Just because someone else got away with it doesn't make it alright.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

The NCAA re-writes results all the time. Games get forfeited. The 1993 Michigan Wolverines, who lost to Duke in the final, now officially did not win a game that year.
Maybe every team in the NFL does what the Patriots did. Every team in the NFL didn't get caught doing what the Patriots did. Take your punishment and s*** it up.

But that won't happen here. The NFL made it's ruling, one which I have said is light. Note also that Jets, who would have the most to game from a forfeiture by the Pats stand by the NFL's decision. Why?

Didn't something like that happen to another team (Villanova?) back in the 1980s?

How are they not accepting it? Belichick released a statement apologizing and accepting responsibility.
(Ooo bad spelling, sorry )

Not remembering that one, but the 2005 Oklahoma Sooners have forfeited their entire schedule.
The interesting one is the Reggie Bush-led USC teams. They haven't ruled yet, but USC may forfeit their championship.

Here's what I think should happen...Chad Pennington should sue Belichek and the Patriots. Pennington got injured in that game. What if he got hit because the Patriots knew the Jets blocking schemes?

Can't imagine that happening if they were cheating . . . Hey remember when the Patriots lost to Denver and Champ Bailey picked Brady . . . Hey remember when the Patriots didn't even make the playoffs after their first Super Bowl . . .? Want me to keep going?
Yes, I enjoy hearing stories of the Patriots losing.

And he would lose. The camera was confiscated in the 1st quarter, he got injured in the third. It was a recording device. The recording would have to be analyzed to learn the blocking schemes.
