500,000 is the maximum fine.
My point exactly. $500,000 was way too little.
I assume you understand what "maximum" means?

Perhaps the NFL can change the fine total for the next team to get caught but in the Patriots case, Bellichick could not have been fined more. The fact that the maximum fine was issued is very telling.

On a side note, nobody around here mentioned two things about this:

1. The camera was confiscated in the first quarter so it didn't really factor into anything. The Patriots win against the Jets was legit.

2. From what many active coaches and retired coaches have said, it appears that behind closed doors Mangini is the one getting sh it from everyone. Not defending Bellichick. But it certainly does appear that Mangini broke a gentleman's code that filming coaches during games, albeit illegal, is common and an accepted coaching strategy. There are atleast 25 active coaches on Bellichick's side according to ESPN.
I'm saying that the $500,000 maximum is too small to make a dent. The NFL should raise that limit if they are serious in getting rid of this.

500,000$ for a coach is quite a bit; regardless if Bellichick or the Kraft family pays it. And losing a first round pick is massive.

First Round Pick is way more valuable then beating the Jets.

If you go the draft pick route, it would have been more massive if they said that they will lose a first, second and third round pick all together and record have nothing to do with it.

Personally I feel the losing of their draft pick isn't that big since they have two first round picks next year anyany.

By the way, does anyone know what happens to the draft pick (s) they lose?

Not sure but I think they may go back to the team that gave the Pats the pick.

First of all, Mr. Aero, losing Laurence Maroney would be huge. That is what losing a first round pick does - potentially. Come on . . .

Seondly, the Pats lose their pick . . . they get to keep San Fran's.

Wasn't Brady something like a 6th round pick? Wasn't Tony Mandarich, a total flop in the NFL, a 1st round pick? A lot of #1 draft choices don't work out the way teams thought they would.

Huge Patriots fan here since the inception of the AFL in 1960. Used to have Patriot season tickets in the late 60's when they su*ked.

Anyway - I think the NFL should have suspended Belichek for at least a couple of games. He IS a great coach - but I am so go*amn tired of his arrogance and coyness. Answer the questions, Bill. Be a man! Face the music! ( Is that enough Cliches?) Reminds me of a great song - anyone ever heard that one live? Not me.
Regardless, I hope they kick the Charger's a** Sunday night.

I can name draft picks too . . . good and bad. But people who think that losing a first round pick is not a harsh (albeit fair) punishment are crazy. You could be losing a Laurence Maroney. Could.

Going to be tough without Seymour and Harrison . . . Tomlinson is going to run for about a mile and a half sunday night.

I didn't know that they kept the SF pick.

I agree, losing a first round pick is huge, usually.

If the Pats lose tomorrow, then the detractors will say, "See, the Patriots can only win if they cheat."

More on the Patriots spying...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3022773

Also, Craig Mortenson (sp?) of ESPN has also reported on Sunday Countdown that the Commissioner has order the Patriots to turn over ALL tapes and notes starting with the first year of Bellichek's tenure with the Patriots and if there are any discrepencies, the league WILL take action. From what I understand is that they may even force the Pats to forfeit games.

I wouldn't be surprised if Belichek has dude videotaping today.

He's that arrogant.

Buffalo may get a break today. Something may be up with Big Ben, local reporters are saying he didn't go through his usual pregame routine, was on the field a short time then went back into the locker room.

Interesting. I didn't think that Rothlesberger had anything wrong from last week.
