LOL I just hope you win enough games to keep Lloyd aka John Cooper of Michigan his job. Plus if both teams have good records going into the Game it seems to bring a little more to the game if that is possible.

Just a couple observations this weekend

1. The Big Ten is definitely having a down year
2. Michigan will go as far as Hart will take them
3. IMO The first weekend of Big Ten play the Buckeyes was the most impressive.
4. Kentucky is or real
5.Oklahoma and LSU are the top two teams right now
6. Will Regis Philbin step in to save the Irish season (no their season is already lost )

I think he did the right thing. I think a lot of times we, as fans, forget that these college players are 18, 19, 20 years old and besides being athletes are also college students, experiencing all of the things a typical college student experiences in addition to the stresses of perfoming on the playing field.

I'll use Auburn as an example. After very lackluster performances in the first two games, Brandon Cox was virtually booed off the field following two interceptions at the start of the Miss. State game, with a lot of the booing coming from the student section. The Dean of Students - along with several of the alumni groups - sent out emails the following week discussing sportsmanship and the correct way to treat players.

I understand that reporters have a job to do, and as fans/season ticket holders who pay large amounts of money to support a team, there is a feeling of a "right" to criticize coaches and/or players. That's fine, but at the same time, unless you have been there as a college athlete, don't criticize them too much.

If it is a pro team, where the players are getting paid millions and not doing their job, boo/badmouth as much as you want to. The same goes for coaches at the college level, but the student-athletes deserve a break.

I agree to a point. College athletes, and I am talking specifically about football, basketball players, may not get paid, but they do get perks, i.e. public recognition, autographs, girls, etc. I think the columnists words were a little harsh, but the coach was way out of line in his rant. He called the player a kid, he's 21, old enough to drink and old enough to go to Iraq, we all know younger men and women who have died over there, and I think he is old enough to receive some criticism. I feel that the coach embarrassed himself, his team, and OSU by his rant. Just my opinion.

I think there's a coach that doesn't like answering though questions. Calling his quarterback a "child" several times didn't help the situation. He's a young man, a student-athlete, certainly not a "child". The column was highly critical of a player the columnist considered soft, I don't know how you candy-coat that. But coach, I'll bet that kid is tougher than you think. He'll bounce back and learn something from this situation, and be better because of it.

Sorry, but when you're making close to $1,000,000 a year, tough questions are part of the job. If you disagree with something written, you can dispute it in a much more respectable way than he did. Maybe the column shouldn't have been written, maybe it needed to be said. Either way, my problem is with the behavior of the coach.

Espn is predicting Msu vs. Kentucky in the Final Four...errr I mean Outback bowl.

Living in Oklahoma and reading the paper, I do have to say that I've never thought much of her as a columnist. Like a lot of her stuff, this particular article relied on a lot of hearsay, third-hand reports and rumors. To put it in BN terms, her article was basically the equivalent of someone taking all the message board rumors every year of this being Buffett's last tour and then writing an article saying "Numerous sources report Buffett will cease touring."

Although I agree the way Gundy handled it was over the top, it was nice to see a coach get fired up and really go to bat for one of his players (and a backup at that) over what he thought were some unfair assertions.

But I'm just sick of the story. It's been totally blown out of proportion, simply because this was kind of out of character for Gundy. If this had been, say, Bob Knight, everyone just would have laughed and written it off as Knight being Knight.

MAJOR game tomorrow night.......The Bulls of South Florida hosting the Mountaineers of West Virginia. Loser is out of the Nat'l Championship race. Winner is still in the hunt. Insiders say Bulls "D" has the speed to stay with "Neers". Have to see that to believe that!

South Florida is quite a story. Just entered Division 1-A in 2001 and already making big noise in the Big East. Coach Leavitt has done a magnificent job (would like Michigan to give him a look when Carr retires but I know Leavitt is signed through 2013 or so).

Cal & Oregon is the other track meet set to go this weekend. Should be a dandy!!
