if you are more than 15-20 lbs overweight, and definitely if you are in the grossly-obese range.. maybe you should not be holding out for tall, dark, and athletically-handsome.

If you are at best, "average" in your looks, perhaps holding out for someone who would be the cover-boy for a fashion/glamer/men's magazine is a stretch.

If you have 2-3 failed marriages, and kids from each, plus a couple from "between marriage flings"; you probably shouldn't expect your new guy to just jump right in and love them like his own unquestioningly.

If you barely squeaked thru high school, or could not pass, holding out for a Ph.D. candidate/holder probably is a bit unrealistic.

and last: If your job is a minimum-wage, dead-end one that involves a paper hat, passing over every guy in hopes that a CEO-type is going to appear and magically-save you from your life, might be a bit delusional.
I am not offended...however, I am a very attractive (model looking) 30 year old woman who has never been married, is athletically fit (gym 3-4 days a week), owns her home, and has a successful job. I am holding out for someone who is also attractive, successful, and that I am REALLY attracted to. Many, many people (guy and girls) ask me why I am still single. I absolutely refuse to settle just to be in a relationship!
I used to tell the people that asked me that,

"I've never found a woman I hate so much that I could do that to her"

Gosh....a person's computer blows up and she misses a interesting conversation like this...

well, here are my two cents. I made the mistake of getting married at 23...I thought I was in love....I thought that was what I was supposed to do...get married, have kids and live happily ever after. That was the fairy tale bull s**t that I had been fed all my life. So I settled....wearing my rose colored glasses and all.....

7 years later, we divorced. It seemed as if I had been given new lease on life. I realized that I had settled...not for less then the fairy tale...but settled for losing myself.....in seven years, I became just a glimmer of myself....but now...my light shines brightly. Those of you who have met me can vouch that I'm not a person who could be smothered or held back....

What I'm looking for now is NOT a man to complete me....but rather someone to compliment me....I am complete just as I am....in the past three years of my life I have done more then I ever thought or knew I could do..and I plan to do more....

to quote a popular country song...
"I ain't settlin' for just getting by/I've had enough of so-so for the rest of my life/ Tired of shootin' too low, gonna raise the bar high/just enough ain't enough this time/ I ain't settlin' for anything less then everything"

Please don't judge me because I refuse to settle this time.

Why would anyone judge you for refusing to settle? :o :o

I think it's *awesome* that you're at a place where you know what you deserve and want, and won't settle for less!

I meant that as a general statement toward society...alot of people think women my age should be married with kids...heck my own mom thinks so....

so what you are doing is the right thing - you know what you want and you don't waste your time in relationships that you know won't work. That's great!!!

We're all supposed to make mistakes in our lives and learn from them - it's when we continually make the same mistakes that we need to maybe re-examine ourselves.

Ladies, I just noticed the "What's wrong with women" thread has reached 12+ pages. I'll bet we could summarize what's wrong with men in 2 or 3.

I'm leaving now
