Friends can be supportive, but telling each other what they "need" or "are supposed to do" is just a little intrusive.

Does anyone else see the contradiction here or is it just me? That is what triggered my concern.

I was in a similar position as you, at the same age. I had the on again off again 7 year relationship. No one could imagine us not married...except for me. For while I might have been able to forgive the past, I couldn't forget it, and because of that I couldn't trust him 100%. I just couldn't go into marriage without that 100% trust, so I walked away. One of the hardest things I'd ever done, but absolutely the right thing to do. While I considered myself worldly and knowledgable, the reality was that life after college was soooo much different...and I didn't know nearly what I thought I did about life. And I have to say, the opportunities and experiences I had after college helped shape me into the person I am today, and I probably wouldnt' have had those opportunities if I'd done what was expected and gotten married.

I don't think the women here are jumping on you, berating you or twisting your words. They've just been down this road before and have learned from their experiences. They are trying to pass their wisdom on to you, so you go into your future with both eyes open and aware.

I have always treasured my friends who are older than me. I have learned so much from them. We don't always agree, but I definitely learn from them, just like they learn from me. It's a great symbiotic relationship.
