Giving my money to Jimmy

Post by krusin1 »

Been reading through some of the Landshark Lager posts - some like it, some don't, some think it's pricey... It all brought to mind past discussions about buying Jimmy's stuff, whether it's tequila, food, shoes, shirts, on and on and on. There have been debates about quality, price, Jimmy going corporate, etc. etc. etc.

After much careful thought, I think I've finally come to my personal conclusion about buying "Jimmy" stuff...

The factors involved in my conclusion:

1. No matter what I buy, ("Jimmy" stuff or not) somebody's going to make a profit. And then they're going to spend that profit on something else.

2. Jimmy's told us on more than one occasion he's "spending our money foolishly" - on planes, boats, convertibles, going on trips, new guitars, and whatever else crosses his mind.

Therefore...

(drum roll - well that may be a little over-dramatic)

Even if I pay a little more, I'd rather have Jimmy get my money and spend it on his fun tickets than to have some (other) corporate suit spending it on the latest yuppie-whatever. If somebody's going to get my money, I'd just as soon it be Jimmy. At least he's given me some great times and background music for life.

(BTW Jimmy, I'll be at the Tinley Park Show and plan to continue doing my part keeping your checking account full. )

That is all. [smilie=coolup.gif]

Jimmy does a lot of good with our money too. I know the Aspen show ticket proceeds all (or mostly, I'm sure he paid the band guys and stuff) went to charity.

I usually won't buy something just because it has Jimmy's name on it. If it's a product I like, I will.

I usually will, however, buy a tshirt or something from a Margaritaville, when I'm in a place that's got one.

I'm with you... I don't go out of the way just to find Jimmy stuff, but if it's a choice between two comparable products and one is Jimmy's, I'll usually go with it.

If I'm in the general area of a Margaritaville or CIP, though, that WILL merit a special effort to get there.

I may be reading your post wrong and I love Jimmy as much as the next PH. But Jimmy has more than enough bucks to go around and I'll be danged if I'm gonna by bad beer or anything else that taste bad to contribute. If he needs charitable contrributions he can ask and I can help without buying bad beer.

I swear this board sounds like it's loaded with Rush Limbaugh type dittoheads sometimes.

I have spent an obscene amount of money on harley davidson crap over the years......and although I'm sure they make some corporate donations, you sure don't hear about it as much......I'm kind of over that now....

BUT, I will keep floating Jimmy's boat one way or the other.....if for no other reason that Buffett paraphernalia reminds me of my wonderful parrothead friends and experiences!!

I've asked more than once, and I don't recall anyone ever answering, but I wonder how many people who have tried Landshark would have gone back for a second one if Jimmy wasn't behind it? It's awful.

And I think this comment is pretty funny:

It's OK for Jimmy to buy the "latest yuppie whatever" because he wears t-shirts, shorts and flip flops instead of a suit?

Easy there big guy...

Like I said minute ago.... if choosing between two "comparable" products, I'll usually go with Jimmy's. If it was a Jimmy product I didn't like, of course I'd buy something else. If you don't like LL, don't buy it. :-?

I'm not suggesting Jimmy's hurting for money or deserves charity - I just meant that if my money's going to go somewhere, I'd just as soon it be Jimmy. He'll use it on planes or cars or music or give it to charities - I'll probably like what he does with the $$ more than what some other corporation would.

(On a side note, careful with the Limbaugh comments.... some of us here ARE conservative and are NOT stupid.)

Maybe it's just me, but I'm having trouble choosing sides in this debate.

I don't buy anything just because it's got someone's (anyone's!) name attached to it.... it's a quality product, or I like the taste (if food or drink), or I don't buy it.... simple... :D

P.S.... I don't give my money to anyone except charities.... Pay for a product or service, yes, but give it away? No.

I'm with SGH! I buy things for me - because I like them. I don't mind paying for something if I think it is worth it. Of course, I love lots of Buffett products. I would love the concoction maker but just can't justify it right now - maybe someday - soon!
