Gusman Hall 1978?

Post by marksk »

I'm listening to a Buffett show that was broadcast on WINZ (Zeta 4) in Miami. It's a solo show from Gusman Hall, 2-16-78. I'm guessing that was the date of the show, since he says he has a new album coming out in two weeks and Son of a Son of a Sailor was released March 1978. The emcee/dj says "the politician has spoken and Jimmy Buffett is on stage". Who is the politician? Was this a fundraiser?

thanks, conched.

i asked about the date since i don't see it listed in the set list database. i saw the august dates, but from his comments that i mention above, it's not one of the august dates.

the dj mentions the show is starting late, which leads me to believe this may have been broadcast live (also, miami venue, miami station).

jimmy mentions he's the only one on stage as the coral reefers are off getting drunk in nashville (he keeps saying we, then says "What's this we s***, i'm the only one up here"), and that he hasn't played since october (the database lists shows on 10-23-77 and 12-18-77).

i'm not in sofla anymore, but someone may want to check the miami herald archives for info on a show. might need to update the database.

I also remember a radio show when he was talking about it being cold and drinking Courvoisier and mentioned the WE thing, and said something about having "a mouse in his pocket."

Seems like that may have been a Philadelphia or New York show.

Of course, Jimmy repeats STUFF like that all the time.

Interesting find.

It's always good to get things into the database.

none of those things, other than it being cold. he does say something like it's good to be back at gusman hall. (disc is at work, so i don't remember exactly what he said)

Jimmy did a lot of small unaccounted for shows in the 70's around the Florida area to include the fact that he did a fair amount of hitchikking and a story I could tell that I have never told here and I can't verify other than it comes from my bro in law/family that lived in Fla all their lives.
