Is this true?

Post by rudybreno »

Wanted to pass along something I heard in the beer line last night at the Tinley Show - apparently the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre doesn't usually allow tailgating before a show, but I heard that Jimmy himself ponies up the $400,000 or so to pay for the extra personnel and security they need to let us all in several hours early. Anyone else hear this? If so, how cool is that?!

No they let us tailgate, because if we don't -- he won't play. I think he gives TPPD a 5 thousand dollar donation for it.

Though I did find out on Thursday night at a different concert from a security guard who works there--- That Jimmy gets 110% of the gates and extras from conessions and merch. Jimmy walked away with another few million in his pocket last night.

I figured the $$$ might be off - I don't usualy consider the beer line too reliable a source of hard data!

I recall, that this topic came up at some point and a person who worked for the city actually said that there is no fine, or no licensing fee to allow tailgating. It is simply, that the town makes so much money on Jimmy coming and that tail gating is part of the lure that they take a relaxed approach because if the fans can't tail gate he will take the show elsewhere.

Tinley Park is the wosrt place to see jimmy. The cops are a$$holes. Just my opinion.I can't wait for Alpine Valley. one of the best places to see jimmy.

Here's the deal... If you only like Alpine, just go to Alpine. The people that have problems with the cops (at Tinley) usually have found a way to get the cops attention. Considering all that goes on the cops are likely doing the right thing. Then people will say the sound is bad... Stay home and listen to your Buffett collection on a system that sounds great. Why worry about the sound if the phans know the words better than the guy singing them? At the end of the day, you are either a phan or a complainer. Be a phan and enjoy yourself. Have phun in Indy, Alpine, or any place your lucky enough to be at a Buffett show.

Exactly!
We have fun whenever we see Jimmy.
I am truly amazed (as I am sure Jimmy is) that year after year after year, same songs, mostly the same people and we all have a blast and make plans for next time!

Cops were great this year as every year . . . Cops like boobs as much as the next guy. As stated previously those that had problems with cops probably did something to deserve it.

It's all how you approach the situation . . . I start with a fist full of beads and a lei or 2. I usually get a smile and a nod.
The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

Bush found out what a stupid law that was and that it was keeping real U.S. American dollars out of the pockets of worthy Texas businessmen's pockets and signed an executive order to change that.

I was gonna say, all I've ever seen the Tinley cops do in the parking lot is quietly mosey around making sure nothing is getting out of hand, help people who have locked their keys in their car, and kindly ask people to stop making the hill on the west-side parking lot into a makeshift restroom...

It's been my experience that cops only give you a hard time if you give them a reason to. I've been to Tinley Park twice and didn't have any problems either time.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Just from personal experience, I have to disagree about the cops leaving people alone. Now granted it has been a while since I have been there, two times I was there we were told by 2 different "rent-a-cops" that we couldn't use our grill. The worst was when we took up a buddy's RV. We were parked in the RV/Bus area. We noticed that the cops were coming down the row making everyone go inside the venue. They said we had 2 choices go inside or leave. We went inside the RV (before they got to us), closed the shades and started to hang out in the RV. A cop opened the door (it didn't lock) without knocking and told us we couldn't stay in there. He gave us the same speech, go inside or leave. I wonder if beer sales were down? Either way I didn't like the way we were treated and the only way I will ever be back is if I can't make it to ANY other show.
