Pirate - With or without Redemption Song?

We've heard Pirate now several times on the 2007 tour with Bob Marley's Redemption Song added to it - in fact, I just caught myself expecting it on tonight's Buffett Buffet on Radio Margaritaville - but I digress (I digress a lot).

So what's better? The new version, or the original Pirate? I guess I'm OK with the new one if it's for this year only, but I don't want the medley to become a staple. Give me the classic! Et tu?

I can listen to the 'classic' version any time I want......in concert, I love something with a twist.....a little unexpected....even though it is 'expected' now.....but you know what I mean.
It gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it on RM.....can't wait to hear it live!

I liked the Redemption Song part at first, as a change every so often, and now I want the original back.

If Jimmys gonna do Redemption Song---- it should be Jimmy solo as the last song of the night.

Don't know if it would give me chills like when he did In My Life on the Saturday show at Tinley in 2001.

Ditto.

Larry actually mentioned it in the concert thread Saturday night, and I agree with him, that they should do Redemption Song as its own song (Hell, he covers enough songs these days). I thought maybe like the girls doing RESPECT in 2004

Nothing has been taken OUT of the classic version-it's still done in it's entirety.
Anytime I hear Nadirah's voice, it's like hearing the voice of the angels.
The "Redemption" version is fantastic, and I hope Jimmy keeps it that way.

Hearing it online this spring, I wasn't too sure about it. After seeing it live, I love it -- same with the In My Room/Tonight I Just Need My Guitar finish.

Nothing wrong with mixing things up . Gives Jimmy a chance to keep it "fresh". As long as the song stays in the set list, I don't care if he wants to try some new things with it.

and therein lies the reason that it's nice for Jimmy to do it at all the shows this year.

We may be tired of hearing it show after show, when we listen to them all, but for that one particular live performance...it don't get no better.

Maybe next year he'll go back to the pure version, so if you miss every show this year, you might not get the live version of PLA40/Redemption Song. It does give ya chills.

I heard it for the first time in Anguilla and it never gets old. And like a few other people said, if I want to hear the original version of "A Pirate Looks At Forty" I can listen to it anytime.

I'm listening to Bob Marley singing "Redemption Song" right now, we need Jimmy to do the whole song.
