Jimmy influenced impulse/inspired purchases

Post by mjeischen »

What has Mr. Buffett caused you to buy? I'm not talking about a frozen concoction maker or some jimmy "branded" item. Something that he has either written about, sang of, or spoken of which caused you to make a related purchase. Perhaps we could call it a subliminal influence.

Have you hung a tire swing? Have you bought a plane? Ever go fish on the flats in the Bahamas? You know HE made you do it. What was it?

Today I bought the Talking Heads Greatest Hits. The only reason for my purchasing this CD was because of Jimmy's recent cover of "Once in a Lifetime" in his last 3 shows - he screwed us on that in Chicago.

Anyway, I've always been a fan of the Talking Heads but never owned a single album . . . until today . . . because Jimmy made me think of them.

DAMN YOU AND YOUR WAYS JIMMY DAMN YOU!

Many evenings in Key West hotels,

far to large bar tabs (again in Key West)

Don't think I would have any desire to visit that little island paradise if not for my love of this music.

Spent alot of money, had tons of fun, and don't regret one moment of it (ok maybe one, or two moments   )

Next thing he's gonna cause me to do (besides book another trip to the Keys) is learn to sail -- haven't done that yet although it's been high on my list for a while.

Damn you Jimmy!!!! :pirate: :pirate:

Far from an impulse purchase, because it took a lot of planning, but visits to Captain Tony's, the Chart Room Bar and Louis Back Yard were all inspired by Jimmy.

I bought DSTC (the book) long before it was a musical.

Most of my Buffett inspired impulse purchases have been music. I bought Martin Denny, Hank Snow, Sonny Landreth, Jake Shimabukuro, Peter Mayer, and more beacuse of an association with Jimmy.

How'd you get all those flamingos housebroken??????
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I'll try to sum it up. It was years ago (1993), I didn't know they had legalized gambling, the hotel staff were less than friendly, and the restaurant i went to was packed with middle aged women waiting for the...Michael Bolton concert to start. :o :o Show started, place emptied and i sat there for hours doing shots of Cuervo talking to the bartender. The next morning, I got up early to get on the road, and managed to get to the beach where it was peaceful and calm and serene; in other words it was the gulf coast town I'd been looking for and not the one I had found.

I actually wrote out the whole experience. Should try and find a way to post it.
