New Favorite Bar

Post by Patriotic Phlocker »

I just spent a week down in Gulf Shores, Al and went to Florabama on Friday night then finished the evening off at the Pink Pony. What an awesome vibe the bars down there have. It seemed like they were actually having fun. The bands at both places were great but the best one was inside the Florabama. Did not get the name but had a great time!!! It is amazing how you do so well with just some 2x4s, plywood, duct tape and PVC pipe.

Any other recommendations for next trip?

The Pink Pony and the entire Gulf Shores beaches are one of my favorite spots in the world. I have family who live in Pensacola and as soon as I drop my bags and say a hello you'll find me cruisin' down to the Floribama for a few cold ones. I read somewhere once where Gulf Shores consistently is ranked as one of the top ten beaches in the U.S.

I am also jealous. Haven't been down there for a few years now.

I have been back for about a week and already miss the sand song under your feet and the vibe from Floribama. Went to Lulu's and had a CIP, wasn't bad and survived 3 1/2 hurricanes in a hour! (wife could not finish hers) Next time going for four!

I second that!

Grew up in AL, and practically lived in Gulf Shores on summer weekends and still make a few vacation weeks there in the summer.

Florabama has changed over the years, but LA ( lower Alabama) still has the Very Best beach bars!!!!!!!

Good places to stay, there are several. Cheap places to stay, the choice is more limited.

Now that school is back in, the prices will be going down. After Labor Day they will drop even more.

My two picks of places to stay in Gulf Shores are either the Best Western (although I haven't been in it since Ivan hit) and the two Phoenix All-Suites hotels, which are really nice condos that rent out.

The Phoenix east is right by the Pink Pony. The Best Western is right near the Sea and Suds.

I've never been to the 'Bama, but I have to say that the best beach bar I've ever been to is the Fat Pelican at Carolina Beach, NC. Just a great dive bar with over 100 beers in the cooler.

I'm happy to hear that they rebuilt the 'Bama. Maybe I'll get there yet in this lifetime.

I take my family every summer to Gulf Shores for a week we love it. Always make a trip to the FloraBama. I took my 11 year old this year after 10pm it is 21 and older until then it is open to all) he thought it was OK. Before that we went to the Naval Air Museum he liked that a bunch. I imagine once he gets a bit older he will enjoy the FloraBama a bit more.

They have not rebuilt it, as far a real bricks and mortar. It is a few big outdoor tents and a bunch of open-air wood decks. Still a fun place to go but nothing like it was. :D

We stayed in edgewater west and rented the 10th floor penthouse 2100 sq foot 4 bedroom condo for $245 per day. It was very spacious and uniquely painted. Oceanfront view and only condo with a balcony but it is rather small.
