A Request from Nadirah Shakoor

Post by Soulsingah »

Hi Everyone,

Will somebody pinch me please I still can hardly believe this is finally happening! Tomorrow I am meeting with Mac Macanally to start pre-production on the CD and we are now shooting for early November to start recording! I have had many opportunies come my way in this life of mine and the opportunity to do this CD is way at the top of the list of " the best moments in my life."

In 1992 I fell in love with a hip hop group called "Arrested Development" after seeing their video "Tennessee". I was attracted to them because their lyrics were positive, their image was down home and friendly, the group included women and men working side by side, they embraced their southern roots as well as their African roots, and the music was a celebration of life. Becoming a member of the group later that same year was a dream come true for me and one that I will forever cherise. When we disbanded the Universe had something else in store for me, the opportunity to sing with Jimmy Buffett. To be honest at the time I thought Jimmy was a jazz singer and when I received his CDs I was a little nervous because it was so different from where I had been musically. 12 years, 13 tours and about 15 albums later I am still here and I have learned soooo much. Watching Jimmy put smiles in the hearts and on the faces of 20 thousand people every time he does a concert is still an amazing experience for me. Getting to know him as a person has been even more amazing. He has been more than an employer to me as well as my family and I consider him to be a friend and one of my teachers in this life of music that I live. For him to offer me a gift such as this is mind boggling and once again I find myself a little nervous. Because YOU are the reason Jimmy continues to do what he does, I am humbly asking for your input.

Jimmy has so many songs to choose from! I really want to know what you would like to hear on this album. I'd also like to know if there are any particular songs that have touched your individual lives in some special way and how. I will check in here at Buffett News over the next few weeks for your thoughts and ideas. If you are more comfortable sending a private message I welcome it.

With Much Appreciation and Anticipation,

Nadirah (aka Soulsingah)

GOOD LUCK....and can't wait to see what happens!

Welcome to BN, Nadirah! :D

Congratulations on this opportunity. I'm soooo looking forward to the results!!

You've already mentioned Pirate/Redemption Song. This sends *chills* down my spine!

I am a Kid of a Kid of a (World War I) Sailor, so that one is special, as well.

I'd love to hear Coast of Marseilles and La Vie Dansante.

Chansons Pour Les Petits Enfants would be awesome, since I heard the story behind it from the families Jimmy wrote about. I was once aboard the yacht Venus (before she sunk) and met Magnus' and "Mr. Moon's" parents. :D

Creola!

Great Heart

It's so literally true, you almost have to consider Smart Woman (In A Real Short Skirt). :D :D :D

Blue Heaven Rendezvous

Just for starters!

Hey Nadirah!!!

I'll echo what others have said with Son of a Son of a Sailor and Pirate Looks at 40 with the Redemption Song.
I'll also add (trying to think outside the box) Banana Republics, One Particular Harbour, Regabilly Hill, Holiday, Off to See the Lizard, USS Zydecolsmobile. Perhaps hearing The Weather is Here from the girl's point of view would be pretty cool. :P

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,

Tonight I just need my guitar
