Adults Only Resorts
My wife and I are planning a vacation for this fall to Riviera Maya, where neither of us have been before. Since it will just be the two of us I wondered if an adults only resort might be more quite and relaxing. If anyone has any experiences with this or have other suggestions on where to stay, please fill me in.

Re: Adults Only Resorts
I havent been to a adults only in Mexico.... but I have in Jamaica... 5 years running. Of course there are a few in Mexico and Jamaica for that matter that are geared towards alternative lifestyles.... but thats not the ones we head to. Make sure you are getting the kind of athmosphere you want.JD wrote: Since it will just be the two of us I wondered if an adults only resort might be more quite and relaxing.

We have 2 keets... they are grown! And we sometimes find it more relaxing to be at a resort were there are no children. Most adult onlys are geared for couples so they have romantic touches and they are very relaxing. But some are all party ... all the time.... So read some reviews so you know what kind of place you are selecting.
Have fun

It's for 18 and up. Haven't stayed there but dropped some folks off after a snorkeling excursion and it looked amazing. If it were me just taking a trip with/for grownups, I'd definitely go there.
The Riviera Maya is AMAZING and I know a great travel agent, Anna Lynne, who has helped us book all our trips there (and she's a BN gal too) http://www.lonepalmtravel.com.

The Iberostar Paraiso Maya is an Adults AI. We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo which is right next door in March for a friends wedding. If you stay at the Maya you have access to the other Iberostar resorts located there. Tha Maya opened back in March as well.

We stayed at the Lindo last October, while it was great, the folks next door at the Maya and such shared a pool with us and there were gobs of kids, although the Maya was definitely adult-focused at the time in terms of the ala carte restaurants, activities, and such. Unless I missed something or the construction that was going on is finished and they have a pool area and stuff that is only for adults. If you were there in March then you prolly know better than me.jimsig wrote:The Iberostar Paraiso Maya is an Adults AI. Plus also, I wasn't super impressed with the beach at the Iberostar Paraiso property. The Barcelo Maya (and Tropical and Colonial now) had an awesome beach.

Dean caused a lot of beach erosion all the way up the coast, as I understand from stuff I saw on the weather channel... So nobody's beach is probably looking too good right now.buffettbride wrote:Plus also, I wasn't super impressed with the beach at the Iberostar Paraiso property. Hola!
Just to clear up a few things............
The Iberostar Maya isn't an adults only resort. That and the IB* Lindo are both family friendly properties. However, the recently opened (May)Iberostar Grand IS an adults only resort. I stayed there in June and it is THE nicest hotel I've ever stayed at in Riviera Maya (and I've been to...a ton of them). The word amazing doesn't do it justice. It is VERY expensive but if you can swing it, it'll knock yer socks off.
The Aventura Spa Palace, while adults only, doesn't have a "real" beach. There is no direct access to the ocean either. There are man made beaches that front manmade lagoons so if swimming in the beautiful Caribbean Sea is something you want to do, think twice about this resort. And at this point and time, they have a lot of clean up to do after Dean because the ocean broke down their sea walls and entered the lagoons. If you watched the Weather Channel or any other reports while Dean was hitting the Yucatan, the Aventura Spa Palace is where they were all staying (they kept saying they were in "Puerto Aventuras") at and reporting from.
As far as beach erosion in Riviera Maya is concerned, don't let it concern you. Dean rally did not affect this area, other than a few minor clean ups that are already complete (sand in pools, palm fronds down, etc). The Playacar area has had some beach erosion problems for at least the past year so you may want to avoid some (not all) of the resorts in this area. But Dean actually deposited a bit more sand in some places so they're actually looking a littleeeeeee bit better than they were. The rest of Riviera Maya has NO beach erosion issues at all (please don't believe all that you see on the Weather Channel!). There's only one adults only resort in Playacar anway, the Royal Hideaway (also SUPER expensive!) - and with others to choose from, it's not that big of a deal to avoid this one.
The all inclusive adults only resorts in Riviera Maya are:
The Iberostar Grand
El Dorado Royale
El Dorado Seaside Suites
Hidden Beach (clothing optional!
)
Excellence Riviera Cancun
Secrets Capri (great place)
The Royal Hideaway
The Royal in Playa Del Carmen (also loved it and the price is good!)
Aventura Spa Palace
If I can answer any questions for you, just let me know!
P.S. Gracias Mal!

I think Secrets Capri is a beautiful resort - not the best beach in the area but the resort amenities make up for it.docandjeanie wrote: Forgot about Secrets Capri, also a great place, there is one in Punta Cana as well, equally nice, but off topic....
Secrets is no longer in Punta Cana, that resort is now just called Excellence Punta Cana, same as the one resort in Riviera Maya is now just called Excellence Riviera Cancun. Secrets no longer manages these two resorts, Excellence is managing them on their own. However, Secrets IS building a new resort in Punta Cana as well as one in La Romana, one in Montego Bay, and two new ones in Riviera Maya (Secrets Maroma Beach and Secrets Silver Sands). Going to be plenty of them to choose from by the end of 2008, beginning of 2009!
Another vote for Secrets Capri! DH and I stayed there a few years ago and had nothing but an amazing experience! LOVED the adults only and the service couldn't be beat!!! Each floor has their own concierge who handles whatever you need. We booked a romantic dinner on the beach. It was awesome! Rooms were beautiful.

Utah is where I live but Vegas is my home.
Thanks for the correction. I was under the weather when we were there in March, and believe it or not it was not the "revenge." My friends were amongst the first to stay in the Grand as it opened days before we arrived in Mid-March. They loved it.NJPhinPhan wrote:Hola!

We always opt for the adults only resorts when possible. The adult only resorts in Mexico aren't quite as ADULTS ONLY as they are in Jamaica. It will be quite and peaceful without the kiddies around. --Enjoy

Cool, would love to go to the one in Mo Bay, I am not likely to go back to the DR until the highway is in. Do you have any idea, when that will be. Are you in the travel biz?
