I was wondering how long it would take for it to make it to YouTube ... as much as I love our local pageant (49th year and going strong), I am sooo glad we're not a part of the MAO or USA system ... and this latest debacle is the reason why ...
Was that not the lamest, most pitiful excuse for a talking head you ever saw ... and if it matters, a lot of people who were watching are appalled that the girl ended up 3rd runner up, instead of 4th (the lowest she could have been at that point).
Map of the United States ... Africa ... ??? Go figure ...
At our festival pageant, we give about $10,000 in scholarships every year ... that's a lot of money for a town our size ...
We have a doctor, many teachers, a school superintendent, nurses, a pharmacist, a restaurant association executive, a physical therapist, a couple of college professors and a lot of business women among our ranks ... we're all about the scholarships and the communication skills. Think of what we do as a finishing school for girls who would have never been exposed to how to dress, talk with adults and handle themselves in public. I mean, these are things my mom taught me, but these girls don't seem to be getting it at home these days. I receive calls from girls I've worked with all the time, thanking me for teaching them how to meet and greet ... many of them say it was what they learned being in the competition that put them ahead in a college/job interview ... and a lot of them didn't win ... but learned how to answer questions and carry on a coversation ... without saying "like" or "do you know what I'm sayin'" every other word.
I hate Pageant Patty and everything she stands for, but here in our small town, where the focus is on getting married to the first pair of Wranglers to come along; to have 2.5 kids and live next to mama, well, what we try to do is to expose girls to the possibilites out there .... and to expand their horizons.
If we lived in the city and they had opportunites to see what's available, what we do every fall wouldn't be necessary ... but we don't have a college, a music teacher, a dance teacher ... so it falls to us to offer a glimpse into the great big world of possibilities beyond a high school diploma and the delivery room.

Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.

Sounds like your local pageant is one of the unique, good ones, ETP.East Texas Parrothead wrote:I was wondering how long it would take for it to make it to YouTube ... as much as I love our local pageant (49th year and going strong), I am sooo glad we're not a part of the MAO or USA system ... and this latest debacle is the reason why ...

That's a tough question to throw at a kid, especially a kid trying to make a good impression on judges and at the same time trying to be the All-American Girl.
She is probably reasonably intelligent, but in all likelihood just didn't know what to do with a question like this, the premise of which implies that many of her friends and neighbors throughout the land are ignoramuses.
She has obviously had the benefit of a Southern upbringing; I think she fudged and fiddled with an answer, rather than come right out and say something that might insult folks and demonstrate bad manners.
