Radio Margaritaville programming?!

Post by horseyparrot »

I don't know if any of the DJ's will read this, but WHAT ARE THEY THINKING???? "You belong to the City"???????? What an awful, cheesy, 'easy listening' song!!! (My apologies to anyone that actually likes it)
Just passing thru on my way to work, but BLECH!

RM, get back to what you were originally created for, and leave the crappy music to mainstream radio!!!!!!!!!!

Every time I hear that song....I have to put on my white jacket, push the sleeves up and watch reruns of "Miami Vice".
Yesterday Spike channel had a mini-marathon of Miami Vice. It was a good day to sit by the tv!

It seems to be that lately the RM programming is going downhill. I was actually talking to a fellow PH at Gillett and he pretty much said the same thing, the DJs are dropping the ball. I was planning on getting Sirius partially for RM, but now I'm not so sure...

Oh yea! I like cheesy music. Wish I was in New York City today.

Don't you think that You Belong To The City is Jimmy Buffett related music? I think it is a bit! I wonder if RM would have as many listeners if they went back to what we had before Sirius. I like the variety they have now more.

I know a lot of people here think it's great but I have never been very impressed. I always felt like they should have added these independent artists that do Buffett style music into the mix.

I've been introduced to a lot of new music by Radio Margaritaville. Scott Kirby, the Boat Drunks, Wes Loper, Jim Morris, etc.... I've bought music that I never would have even looked at before, because of RM.

They just don't play enough of this type of stuff, IMHO.

I'm one that has always been impressed.

Just like now...hearing The Piano Has Been Drinking. Love that song by Tom Waits. I would have never known that Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks did that song if I had not just seen it on RM. Great idea to play that one.

Yep. And I'm also thankful that's it's still free on the internet, even after hooking up with Sirius. But I do think the playlist has changed, now that they have to answer to paying subscribers -- it's no longer Pirate Radio.

Glen Frye is a close personal friend of Jimmy Buffett's.

Well, you certainly can't complain about them not mixing it up...

According to This Page, the top song last week was played only 7 times. But Paul McCartney got played 213 times? I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I have found a lot of great artist by listening to RM. I am glad it's free, I have XM and they will merge with Sirius, when they do, I will look into sirius, the sound quality is better.

On that note, does anyone know of any good steel drum island music. I am looking for some for an upcoming party. Any idea's. I have Robert's stuff. Any other idea's?

Thanks,

wCs

While they do mix in some different stuff here and there, there are certain things that seemed to get played EVERY day (sometimes more than once). Case in point - Scarlet Begonias has been played 10 times in the past week. I know what yer thinkin' ...... Bits, quit yer b!tchin' and just change the channel. Well, I don't wanna dang it!

I kinda miss the Bubba Whartz Stories and the guest DJs and commercials for Duchow's Boat Center. And what happened to artists like Sally Taylor and Sunny Jim?

Wow, what a cool web site! Thanks for finding that!

Now I can record all day long and then know exactly where to go back and find the best of the good stuff.

We just need to get Sirius to list the songs during the show instead of "Jimmy Buffett LIVE" and we'll have us an automatic setlist!

I think I got Jimmy Buffett LIVE on the brain today.

I miss all of that programming, too. I did like the guest DJ sets. The Down South Radio Music Hour was good. I have a copy of the Bubba Whartz stories. Maybe I can read them if Morgan Steinmetz isn't available.
