but business, like life, is not fair.

i sure don't want my kids' academic, athletic, or artistic playing field leveled. i want them to strive to achieve to be the best they can be. i want someone to keep score at their soccer games. i want them to be rewarded and recognized for the "A" grades they get for working so hard. likewise, i want them to know what it's like to lose or fail or not get something so they know how to pick themselves up and keep working hard.

businesses and individuals as part of those business should absolutely be accountable to the law, but they should not be punished for being successful.
You said it better than I ever could.
and i'm not even a republican.
... but there is still hope for you. ;) :D
Keep in mind, that your daughter likely would NOT have much opportunity
to advance in girls/womens sports if not for the progressives who pushed through Title IX back in the '70's. The field was levelled for her,
whether she chooses that path or not is, at least, a choice she now has.

The term taxation has been MISGUIDEDLY characterized as "punishment" by a right wing
that would like you to think that you CAN keep more of your money, and the country will keep right on pluggin' away.
well, it can't.
Deficit spending is just like maxing out your credit card.
It failed before with Reaganomics, and it's failing again right now.

What saddens me is how quickly people forgot, or have been brainwashed into thinking, that times were so crappy 10 years ago.
we had a government SURPLUS, we had social programs helping more Americans reach for that better life, and he had the low unemployment
and inflation numbers that are touted today as a success marker.

It saddens me that a right wing faction literally tries to SEPARATE Americans into YOU and ALL THE REST OF THOSE BEGGARS who want your tax dollars as free handouts.
Maybe when you live in smaller towns, and middle America it is easier to rationalize that "I can get along just fine right here on my own!"

... but, as we pass the sad anniversaries of Katrina and 9/11, it is all to obvious to see that local regoions hit with adversity need ALL AMERICANS to pull
with them to get through tough times.

It's seems easy enough to do it as Parrotheads, to pull togather...
I don't see how looking at the welfare of ALL of Americans should be any different

Forgot? Brainwashed? Hardly.

I had a full time job in 1997 averaging 56 hours a week. I also held four parttime jobs - at the same time.

There were people taking in more money from social programs than I earned.

Name one country that has EVER taxed its way into prosperity. You manage that and I'll be a little more willing to believe our tax rates are too low.

Fact is, it's people and the businesses/industries/inventions/products they create that makes for a prosperous nation. In most cases, we'd all be better off if government just got out of the way.

(Hmmmm... a government that does less would also probably cost less, which would result in less deficit spending.... I think we're on to something here!)

The ten scariest words in the English language: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." :o

And yet you fail to do so at every opportunity. This must be why you dislike those succeed, and wish for a "level playing field".

I guess JFK was worng when he cut taxes when he was president. he iunderstood business and how business operates. As did Reagan's administration, as does this one. Low unemployment, low inflation, high stock market. The economy is doing vrey well, despite news reports to the contrary.
