If he can't get by on $168k maybe his couch sitting bon bon eating wife should head down to the local Walmart and submit an application.Snow, who had said recently that he would leave before the end of Bush's presidency, said cancer was not the reason he was stepping down. Instead, the father of three said he needs to make more than his White House salary of $168,000. He can earn far more money on the speechmaking circuit.

I rarely agree with Wino - But please - compassion is definitely in order.Wino you know wrote:His medical expenses are ennormous.
Even WITH insurance, the cost of being treated for the type of cancer he has (or ANY cancer) is HUGE.
A little compassion, please.
Thank you.
Snow is obviously fighting for his life and I wish him nothing but the best.

That's fine, and I'm sure you're a very compassionate person, but, if he's able to get another higher paying job somewhere else, and it's more conducive to his plight, he needs to do what's best for him and his family.Skibo wrote:Cancer is not the reason he is stepping down, or so he states. I have plenty of compassion for his medical situation and have really enjoyed him as press secretary.
Yes, $168,000.00 would go a LONG way here in Bendover, Iowa, but in the D.C. area with three kids in school, a house, and rising medical expenses, it doesn't go very far.

Perhaps I should have stated it differently. His rational that $168k wasn't enough to get his family by was a poor reason to give for his departure. Republicans and Dems complain that the other side has lost touch with the common people and this is a perfect example of lost touch. $168k puts him in the top 1-2% of all income earners in the country I believe. In addition by working for the federal govt. I believe he would have the same health insurance that our congressmen and senators have (which is pretty darn good from what I hear) There are a lot of residents of DC that get by on much much less. Sure he will go off and earn 7 figures on the lecture circuit. I don't begrudge him that. I would have preferred that the finances be left out.

His medical expenses are at least triple that, I am sure it is the cancer, I wouldn't say that in a public press conference either. God bless him, he is in the fight of his life. Phin power to Tony Snow.Skibo wrote:Perhaps I should have stated it differently. His rational that $168k wasn't enough to get his family by was a poor reason to give for his departure. I wish Tony well. I always enjoyed his radio show and I thought he did a great job during a difficult time for an unpopular president. I hope he can keep fighting his cancer- I agree, it appears to have taken a toll. As a self employed person with a young adult child with a chronic incurable illness that requires medications costing in the tens of thousands I totally understand making decisions about career based on finances. My consulting business provides a much better income and much more flexibility in my schedule than a job ever could.

People go on and on about Federal Employees' Health insurance.Skibo wrote:Perhaps I should have stated it differently. Honestly it is not all that great. There were times I personally would have been better off on Federal Assistance( Welfare)/Medicaid then having My Federal Health insurance.( It has a cap of $1 million per person per lifetime). That really is not that much $$.
When My Twins were born as preemies, 27 weeks ,they used all that up before leaving the hospital. Thank goodness My Hubby has better thru his job.Still I was their primary because My Bday is earlier in the year.
We qualified Because I was off work for a State program that took care of all The Boys bills not paid except our deductable.
My Mother went thru $3 Million when she had her Liver transplant due to bile duct cancer.( Thank God My Dad was a Teamster they paid all but $250.00.)
Re: Tony Snow resigns
I am no fan of the Bush administration or Fox News, but Tony has my support in this decision.Skibo wrote:If he can't get by on $168k maybe his couch sitting bon bon eating wife should head down to the local Walmart and submit an application.Snow, who had said recently that he would leave before the end of Bush's presidency, said cancer was not the reason he was stepping down. True, it's not the illness that's driving him to resign, and he is not a rat leaving a sinking ship. He has to bank some serious coin to keep his family in shape after he is gone... and he is counting the days.
I wish him millions.
(I also hope he wins if he bought a Mega-Millions ticket this week.)
