Whoopi explains why Vick is into dog-fighting...

"It's not an unusual thing where he comes from...

He's from the South... " Listen how she says it...

Saw it after the Jerry Lewis thing, but don't know how to do a short-cut to it. Click on the Whoopi View image.

Astonishing, really..... How could Whoopi possibly defend this....? :-?

Kinda like saying the "n" word is okay, if you're from the south.....

One is as ludicrous as the other...... :-? :-? :-?

Oh, and she says, "he's from the Deep South." He's from Newport News, Virginia. That's the Deep South? I thought Whoopi was gonna be a smarter choice than Rosie, but that thought's gone out the window.

Talk about illiterate f**s... J/K!!!

I used to live not too far from where Bad Newz Kennels was located. Yes, in those rural counties there's plenty of dogfighting going on. Even hunting dogs are often treated poorly... like hunting tools, not pets.... But everyone knows dogfighting is illegal, and he happened to get caught....

Bad form, Whoopi.... bad form.....

Even if he was from the "deep south", how does that make dogfighting an acceptable practice? Its not acceptable anywhere on earth if you ask me... :-?

Whoopi is an idiot. Vick's actions have nothing to do with being southern, it has to do with that fact that he is ignorant.

It's not that it's acceptable, it's that it's not an unusual thing.

Kinda like saying the "n" word. It's not acceptable, but it's not unusual.

I like Whoopi.

They're both a couple of idiots, but Vick is worse.

It has nothing to do with where the moron is from-it's a matter of human decency.
Of which he apparently has none.

I live in the Deep South and people here are outraged at Vick's stupid behavior.

Some are writing letters into the paper saying it wasn't a big deal or it's no different from the sport of deer hunting, but more people are shooting them down, saying they're crazy.

It is prevalent here, but not in open society, like Whoopi makes it sound. Cruelty is cruelty. I'm sure there's worse things prevalent in other parts of the country.

Our animal shelter has a mascot of a rescued pit bull dog that is utterly devoted to the director. She rescued him from a dog fight, prosecuted the perpetrators, and rides in parades with him at her side. These dogs CAN be rehabilitated.

Whoopi made it sound like it was understandable that Vick was into this because he was from the South. That's ignorant and prejudiced. He's into it because he's not a decent human being, like Garry said.

I liked Whoopi too, but I didn't realize she was so ignorant and prejudiced. Everybody in the South is not a stupid dog-fighting savage.

So Whoopie condones killing puppies? She's Whoopie and I guess we all better change our thinking and start an awareness campaign to promote killing puppies. What color bracelet do you think we should use to promote puppy killing awareness? Will there be informercials on MTV about killing your puppies? I wonder how many closet puppy killers will be empowered to come out of the closet, so to speak? Thank you Whoopie for enlightening our society :o

I understand her point of view
Don't agree with it, but I do understand it.

It IS a cultural thing, plain and simple.

from here in San Diego, I've worked with Mexican men who fought dogs regularly for sport.
Remember, each Sunday I can travel 5 miles across the border and see bull"fights".

If we were in South Korea or Indonesia, we could very well be DINING on dog.
It's both commonplace and considered fine dining, at that! :o
Cats, too!

I don't have a taste for ANY of the above cruelties to animals,
but i'm also not gonna get down to some ethnocentric rant of how I'm ABOVE all that.
That's the exact attitude we've taken as a government, and it's any wonder we're received as warmly as our POTUS in Oz ...or for that matter, our forces in the Middle East
:o

Being from the South - the deep South. Oh wait - Texas. I can see where she's coming from. With regards to "animal rights" some of the southern states have been slow to enact laws. Plus you've got the mentality such as was mentioned earlier towards the hunting dogs.

That's not to say it's right -but rather that it exists.

Cockfighting is still legal in Louisiana. That doesn't make it any less brutal or stomach turning.

Bulllsh*t.

It's not cultural. I lived in the South for a very long time. If you're going with "dogfighting is cultural" in the South are you also going with "lynching is cultural" or "cross burning is cultural" or "slavery is cultural"? Just because these things happen now or happened in the past doesn't make them cultural. They're illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.

We're not talking about Mexico or Korea. We're talking about Virginia.

Don't pull this BS that Michael Vick should get a pass because people have been having illegal dogfights in rural Virginia for a long time. BS. Vick has a college degree. Presumably that means he can read, and therefore understand the basics of what's right and wrong in Virginia. This isn't some ignorant, illiterate individual. College degree. Virginia Tech. Cultural, my a$$. He knew right from wrong and he broke the law. Shame on Whoopi Goldberg for trying to make excuses based on "culture."

I lived in rural Isle of Wight County, across the river from the CITY of Newport News. City. If there's dogfighting in Newport News, there's got to be relatively little. The city is made up of a downtown and a long stretch of suburbia. Most of the dogfighting goes on in the rural counties (like Surry County, where Bad Newz Kennels was located.

Whoopi, if you're going to start throwing out theores, probably a good idea to at least get your facts straight.....

WRONG!
I have lived in South Carolina for 33 years. I have heard of dog fighting but have NEVER seen it nor do I know of ANYONE who does it. To lump southerns into
It IS a cultural thing, plain and simple.
is just plain wrong.

You might as well say that Southerns have an IQ of less than 50, drink moonshine, have sex with our kinfolk, and all are redneck. That is if your gonna say
It IS a cultural thing, plain and simple.
