I enjoy the show and "encourage" my kids to watch it. I can't see it winning an Emmy on any level, unless they add a new award for clean entertainment. The show is better than other shows on Disney(That's so Raven is the worst!!!! - IMO)
As for the scalping of tickets, How would you feel if you were the one without a ticket, all your friends had them and you didn't have the $100+ some scalper wanted for the tickets to your local Jimmy Buffett show?
I have always thought that part of "Getting it" here on BN was to be against scalpers & brokers on any level for any event. Maybe I was wrong.
Raven in concert was actually pretty entertaining and she can really belt out some songs IMO
I'll agree with you that Raven can sing, I just can't stand to watch her show.

She is icky. My daughter thinks she is a talentless example of what a young girl shouldn't be.

She doesn't like Raven, either. We don't even have cable so must of that stuff she only sees when visiting grandma or hears it from friends.
She likes that Sweet Life with Zach and Cody show, despises High School Musical, and aspires to the likes of Bernadette Peters.

I just want to give a big THANK YOU to Big Jimmy for starting this thread . . . I am now going to take my daughter to her 1st concert.
This thought would have never crossed my mind otherwise . . .
Now I am beginning to wonder what I am thinking.

ooooohhhhhh...this thread GOT me.
My daughter, who is 8, LOVES Miley Cyrus...aka, Hannah Montana. She loves the show, she loves the music. And, we had a deal. On our last road trip, I would play all I wanted too, (mostly Buffett and the likes) but she got to play HER cd's once, all the way thru. I really like HM. A Lot. I love who she is. I love who she plays and I love the fact that she's a nice, clean girl. Excellent role model for Mollie!
And, during a Karoke birthday party, my daughter sang I learned From You to me! Made me cry. Miley has great music and she's a cute kid. NOT a brat!

Musicians are not role models but at the moment this young girl is conducting herself nicely. Her father seems very involved in her life and she appears to have a close family. This could make the difference and help her avoid the Spears syndrome.
I would have a problem with my 8yo listening to heavy metal. Most of the lyrics are not appropriate for that age group. You need to be a kid when you're a kid. At 8 I think you are listening to what you are exposed to and parents purchase for you. I like alot of different genres of music and some talk radio stations. Many of these I wouldn't listen to in front of my kids when they were 8. There were some Buffett lyrics I'd avoid around an 8yo, although most are fine.
Some things that are find for adults aren't for kids. You ease into some things. If you let your kid do anything they want to at 8 how will you say no when they are 15?

My point was just that...Miley seems to be a nice kid. She also makes pretty good music for kids and adults. I censor most of my daughter's music and tv shows. I have friends who think I censor too much actually. But, so far, there has been nothing I object to on HM. We USED to like Lindsey Lohan too but her behavior lately has made me turn away from her, on Mollie's behalf. Spear's syndrome...I like that.
Do these folks live their life trying to be role models??? No, probably not. But the fact is kids do admire them. Musicians, athletes, actors...they are all in the spot light and sometimes, they goof up. Hopefully they learn am move on. (after all, don;'t we ALL do this??? But the Enquire isn't watching me. Or at least I don't THINK they are!!)
Now, what I listen to is a whole other story. I am a grown up!

This thread is funny . . .
We've gone from:
Calling people we don't know Brats - I think that was name calling due to envy
Admittedly looking for info to scalp tickets
Stereotyping those that listen to heavier types of music and their behavior
and now Who/what is a role model
This is a diverse crowd! AWESOME.
As for role models? The only role models I want my kids to have are my wife and family. When they statrt looking up to celebrities things get skewed as money warps most concieved notions. Thats my ideal but whether or not it happens is beyond me. This in turn brings us to the subject of "sound"(no pun intended) parenting.
If you raise your kids well you will rest assured you have taught them well enough to know right from wrong and to have good values and morals. We can all hope to be so lucky but I expect I will fail somewhere and I only hope my failure is one of microscopic proportions and reversible.

I don't like being a part of any "controversy," and certainly not part of the cause of it, so I want to clarify that the comment that I made previously was directed solely at the negative statements made by the original poster and in NO WAY was meant to stand in judgement of the music preferences of anyone else on this board.

As for role models.....I agree that in the best of circumstances, parents and other family members SHOULD be the role models....and I *hope* that continues to be the case with Caitlin.....
Unfortunately, in my line of work (both former and present) I see a whole lotta folks that aren't and shouldn't be role models for ANYONE.....and yet children continue to spring forth from their loins......I HOPE those kids can find a teacher, a non-touching clergymember, a neighbor who isn't on the sex offender registry.....SOMEONE in real life to emulate.....but even that isn't possible in all cases.....the fact that a great many children are propped in front of the TV as a babysitter is a reality......I would rather have them watch HM than 90% of the other crap out there.....
It's a tough world......gotta grab the good where you see it....even if it's just a little good.

If I really want to get a seat, I will get one no matter what it takes. I have been to so many concerts ( over 150+) in just the last 15 years. So If I miss Jimmy one time--- Im not worried. Ive seen Jimmy around 25 times. Its pretty much the same show year in and year out.
And for those of you who want to start throwing crap at me..... Back when this board was fresh, and wasn't hostile at all.. I gave away tickets for concerts. Probably gave away a total of 12 tickets or so in 2 or 3 years. So... Am I really a bad person? Nope not at all.
The whole reselling of tickets is everyones own personal option. You pay what you want for the ticket. If Jimmy is doing a show that tickets are $1000 each, many of you will not go because you can not afford it. Though, He may be doing a show where tickets are only say 50 bucks. I have a few extra tickets. If you really want to go to that show, you will pay what you want. If you only want to pay $50 bucks and tickets are sold out, well... you just can't go. Sure you may find a nice person who has never been screwed over with tickets, and they will cut you a break.

And no matter how bad I wanted a ticket I would't pay it someone as pompous as you. (Do you need me to get you dictionary so you find out what that means?)

I have no earthly idea what merit this brings to your argument . . . So you are bragging that you've spent alot of money on shows for yourself. I think some of us are p*** because of your arrogance to the matter of "the brat" and your inability to comprehend that your scalping/reselling/services p*** people off. I am hoping to take my daughter to this show because "the brat" brings joy to her. Pure innocent joy . . . she's 3. Now if it sells out and I'm shut out and I know someone as arrogant and selfish as you are conducting yourself gets those tickets - well I'll be p*** because my kid suffers at your expense.
I'm not one to judge - ticket reselling is a pro and con - I'm not against it but I don't thinkyour arrogance and ignorance is necessary. Perhaps simply asking in a much less invasive manner about who Hanna Montana is and is she popular would have sufficed but . . . you saw a chance to shock and awe people and took it. It's kind of sad that rather than do something positive you'll openly admit to going out of your way to screw innocent kids out of a concert.
Sure you've seen Jimmy god knows how many times . . . I hope there is an award out there for you somewhere. But guess what . . . I'm a father who will only get to take his 3yo daughter to her first concert once . . . I'd prefer it be Hanna Montana/Jonas Bros . . . That's my once in a lifetime not 25 times . . . you brought this hostility to this thread by name calling an innocent kid performer and insulting the integrity of those of us that wish to see our kids happy and have a chance to see a concert of someone who right now is a pretty positive image - I'm not certain your previous chairty of ticket giving warrants you a free pass here . . .

I've called them worse but thats not the issue . . . You're now getting defensive about others opinions of how you approached this. Again, you could have approached this a number of other way but you chose . ..
Big Jimmy wrote:Does anyones kids like this so called artist? I have heard she is really pouplar with all the little brats.
Which got me to thinking-- they were mentioning it on US99 this morning because Billy Ray is her dad. She is coming to do a show here.... Tickets will probably go quick--- would you pay more then face to take your brats to see her in concert?
So now reading this I should correct that you are not in fact calling Hannah a brat but more our children brats which is quite truely a much more remarkable argument. You've actually only referred to Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus as a "so called artist" which happens to have more talent in her little toe than most of us. Then you get into the "paying more than face" which you know full well is very touchy here.
