Newbie Question... Disapponted w/MSG show tonite
I am from NJ and more into Bruce.. but recently found Jimmy via Sirius and have enjoed listening past few months & listening to a few recent live concerts including right now at MSG concert.
But tonite's show from MSG doesn't seem to have any passion or excitement from either the crowd or Jimmy. In fact, I'm listening to encore now and it's Ok, but not exciting by any means. Perhaps cause I am more used to numerous local Bruce concerts I have attended which are nuts. Or Is Jimmy perhaps more energetic & fans more fanatic down South or in warmer climates???

Well, I've been to concerts in SC, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and D.C. and the crowds have been great and engergetic in all of those locations. I don't think it has anything to do with being in the South or being in a warmer climate. I think you just have to be there in person to really experience it...listening to it on Sirius is a good alternative, but, not anyting like actually being there in person, in my opinion.

thx for replies & I hear you..
but I have several bootleg Bruce concert CDs and they are amazing. I feel like I'm there even though listening in my house. It may be an unfair comparision, but Bruce & his band are so energetic. But I have to realize the music is different & enjoy each accordingly. I must say Jimmy seems to love what he's doing.... and who wouldn't ??? lol

i during tonights radio margaritaville concert (internet) could not hear much crowd noise at all.tyanks1 wrote:I am from NJ and more into Bruce.. but recently found Jimmy via Sirius and have enjoed listening past few months & listening to a few recent live concerts including right now at MSG concert.

some broadcasts are better than others and alot of the bootlegs going around are alot better too
not sure if the same is true on sirius since that is a higher quality feed

Welcome to the club bud. IMHO He hasn't done a really great show in a long time. Sure he may throw a suprise into a show but that does not make the show. I think the thing that really got my on this bandwagon was when he did that show at Texas Stadium. I am sorry, If your playing in Texas with Alan Jackson, and KING GEORGE STRAIT, Jimmy YOU DO NOT DESERVE TOP BILLING. George should get that hands down no questions asked.
Im just glad there was more Alan and George on the live at Texas Stadium.
I think perhaps the best shows, I do not know if it was just had what happened to us or not, but the 2 Tinley Park shows in Sept of 01. Don't know if it was everyone with AMERICAN FLAGS (personally the only flag that should be flown ANYWHERE ALWAYS) or the USA USA USA chants all through the show, or if it was Defying Gravity on Thursday, and In My Life for the first time on Saturday. Those shows where probably 2 of the best Jimmy has ever done. Though, in July of 2000 when he did have Clint Black with him, those were great too.
Jimmy has slacked in the past 5 years. I have heard stories from my uncle who saw him many times at the Quiet Knight in Chicago, LONG BEFORE the term Parrothead was concieved. I have shows from that era on CD, and ya know--- its something bout back then, when he didn't have to play to the masses that made him fricking great.

It's gonna happen...
I won't. If I miss one year, im not gonna complain. In 2005 I decided I would NOT see him in Wrigley only due to the fact I could not make the later show, and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would go see a concert that started at 2pm.
I was lucky with Harrahs, they gave me free airfare, and hotels for October. And I could use it the weekend Jimmy was there, so I went. Otherwise I woulda had no problem missing Jimmy.
I have been to more shows then I know, and ya know.... Jimmy is just another act. There I said it. Only thing with Jimmy is---there are more arrogant drunks there then the shows I prefer to attend.

Give it a few more years of listening if Jimmy keeps us on this wild and crazy ride and you'll probably feel that way again, but will also realize as DEZ says, you just can't compare Jimmy and Bruce.tyanks1 wrote:I am from NJ and more into Bruce.. but recently found Jimmy via Sirius and have enjoed listening past few months & listening to a few recent live concerts including right now at MSG concert.

Jimmy doesn't try to WOW the crowd with a big band production on the last song usually. I think most fans prefer more of a ballad with a personal touch or tribute to the place or people around the place.
Welcome to BN, ty1!

Agreed, and as you'll find here, especially if you follow along with us during a live show, and he plays Glory Days, most of us here are turned off by it.Dezdmona wrote:I wouldn't try to compare the two.
They have different styles, presentations, songs & histories.
Certainly fans will respond in their own unique way.

Welcome to BN! What I briefly heard sounded like a great show. I'm always grateful for what Jimmy does because one day it will be gone. Hang in there he just needs to get in your viens more . . .
The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

Re: Newbie Question... Disapponted w/MSG show tonite
Show sounded awsome to me, but I understand what you're saying. When I went to the first Mohegan Sun show everything sounded flat to start, but it picked up and was amazing. I've found, and this is just me, that when he plays outdoor venues the phlock gets into it more with tailgating and what not, but some enclosed venues with the parking(espcially in cities) have a hard time setting up tailgates and, againg this is me, that's where the phlock really gets amped and ready and Jimmy feeds off of that. So I guess for me the better the tailgate, the more energy the show seems to have.tyanks1 wrote:I am from NJ and more into Bruce.. but recently found Jimmy via Sirius and have enjoed listening past few months & listening to a few recent live concerts including right now at MSG concert.

I would agree with this observation too . . . plus we're talking about the beginning of the week . . . many of those people are going to work tomorrow . .. .Cobi0613 wrote:Show sounded awsome to me, but I understand what you're saying. Full disclosure--still trying to get aticket to Bruce's HCC show that opens his tour, haven't seen him in 15 years and really looking forward to it.
JB isn't about just the show, it's about the experience. Strictly concert-wise, I wouldn't put him up against a lot of concerts I've been to. BUT having been to 30+ shows your perspective is colored. Didn't make tonights, didn't listen to it even, and checking the setlist I don't feel bad for missing it, but once you've met some of these crazy people, the RM shows become awesome because you know everyone there.

as someone who was there...
the crowd, at least up in the 'bleeds' was pretty dull during much of the 1st half. not a single person that i could see was standing, dancing, just singing along (which is fun too, but not the same). midway thru set 1, my so and i moved down to the lowest level and evvybody was much more into it. the 2nd set was a little more uptempo and got the crowd dancing. all in all a good show, mebbe a 7/10.

I know you like to pimp "king" George and rip Jimmy about every five posts but in my opinion Jimmy blew them both away on the live at Texas cd.
Their sets were almost dull and boring compared to his set.
Never seen George live but I've heard he does not move around, get excited much or even play his guitar much.
