Buffett show as a first date?

Post by phansheridan »

Last night I was at the bar with some people from work, and one of the chefs from the resteraunt in the hotel I work at was discussing how he has a date coming up and needed some ideas for a first date. I half jokingly said a Jimmy Buffett show which turned into an hour long discussion as to whether a concert in general than a Buffett show was a good idea, any opinions on whether a Buffett show is a good idea or a bad one and more importantly why?
Both shows at Greatwoods in June
Seattle and Vegas in October

Girlfriend doesn't realize that shes going to be a parrothead by the end of this summer whether she likes it or not.

First date--any concert might be tough, unless you know that you have a similar taste in music, or at least are both open to experiencing something new. A buffett show could be extra tough, just because of all the connected chaotic hilarity that comes with it. It could certainly be overwhelming for somebody who doesn't quite know what they're getting themselves into. Of course, if it works out and leads to a second date, I'd be willing to bet it has a good chance to be a nice long fun relationship.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

Could be an expensive one too.

$150 each for tickets - Can't show her your cheap
$200 at least for booze at the show, because its not cheap
$100+ for dinner after the show

Your looking at almost 500 dollars for a first date--which is kinda a lot.

Let's even make it as cheap as possible

$50 each for lawn seats (now that would be an experience, especially if your date is a Buffett virgin)
$100 for food/alcohol (if you get just enough for the two of you)
$100 dinner

Still an expensive 1st date

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

If he don't break her in right, he may be heading for trouble!
Lawn seats, BYO tailgate drinks and meal, light snack after.
If she goes out with him again, she's a possible keeper.
She'll either think he's an idiot, or the coolest guy in town.
That $500 + first date? What would he do for their one month aniversary, let alone her birthday?
Now, if he plans on $500 dates on a regular basis, and can afford it and enjoys it, that's a different story.
But unless he can keep it up, save the extravagance for a special occasion, or at least something more special than a first date!
Been there, made that mistake (Not a JB show, but the impressive first date)
By the way, at $200 for booze, and $100 for dinner, he'll strike out with any girl worthwhile.

It may not have been our first date, I think it was our 4th or 5th. This November we'll be married 30 years, coincidence? I think not!

Yes, dates were a lot cheaper then, but the experience was just as good!

My gut reaction is that it's a bad idea. Which is odd since I've only done that once and I'm happily married to the guy (although it wasn't a planned first date)!

personally, i would rather a first date be in a more "intimate" setting than buffett. that way you can talk and actually get to know the person a little better.

over the summer, i went to several shows with somebody i was dating. this sounds odd, but we never had an actual "first date" all of our "dates" were large events like buffett and group things. we did spend lots of time on phone conversations...but only a few days alone together. i thought i really knew her well....but i'm starting to realize i didn't (we broke up)

my point is...it's hard to get to know somebody at a lage gathering like buffett. save him for later in the relationship.

You Met her there, so you knew she was a fan already.

Sorry to all those who think I am crazy---- If I am going to a concert I wanna see---- I need to be in the first 15 rows, otherwise to me, its not worth going. I have been to over 100 concerts, sat everywhere. Lawn is cool if your like 15 to 23

Sorry I have lots of body aches and crap, I cant handle that crap.

I sat in the pavillion closer many times---much better. Though in the last 2 years-- ALL the TICKETS I HAVE BOUGHT for shows--- I have been no farther then 12th row.

You can't show this new girl your a cheap scape. Do the best--and if not-- at least you will have seen jimmy up close at least once.

I spent 50 bucks on my dinner for myself Friday night to celebrate my promotion at work. Just so happened the Cubbies were on too.

20+ for my steak, and well 30 for the Guinnesses, with a few free ones thrown in.
