Cover song you look forward to hearing
With all the discussion on Jimmy doing too many covers, let me ask this. When you're at a concert, is there a cover that you look forward to hearing? And I mean a cover in the true sense, a song made famous by someone else, i.e BEG( Van morrison), Glory Days (Bruce), Scarlet Begonias (Dead). Not a song that was written by someone else, but never really is associated with the originator.
For me, I would really have to say that I really look forward to Jimmy doing Southern Cross. Was at a show and he didn't play it and I was really bummed out. He could skip all the other covers, but for me I really enjoy his version of Southern Cross.
What do you think?

I'm probably in the minority, but I absolutely LOVED Jimmy singing Glory Days at Tinley Park this summer - the only concert I was able to attend this year. He's done the song pretty badly at times, but at Tinley it absolutely rocked.
That being said, I'd love to hear Northeast Texas Women at a concert I'm attending. Sounded great on the Texas CD.

I keep wishing that Jimmy would do The Cape by Guy Clark, but Boats to Build would be good.
Another I would like is Three Little Birds.
In the right venue or at the right time, Whoop De Doo.
It's always interesting to hear what song Jimmy does to dedicate it to or honor someone, and I guess I'd have been disappointed if he had not done Northeast Texas Women in Texas this year after hearing it at Texas Stadium, which was a complete surprise. Of course he pulled out all the stops doing Ballad of Spider John, NETWand If I Had A Boat in Frisco.
Another song I'd like is Harbor Lights by Boz Scaggs.
I remember really wanting to hear Mexico back in 1995.

The shows would be better without any covers.....
Penny suggested 2 that I would agree with...Banana Republics and Defying Gravity....
...and I'll throw in Biloxi...

Uncle John's Band would be sweet to hear again.....
Southern Cross should be left to CSN, Jimmy has dozens of other GREAT songs he wrote that never get played live anymore. I mean, any phan of JB and CSN has to admit there's a lot more emotion in CSN's version. Jimmy's upbeat crowd pleaser play on it has gotten old after a dozen times.

We used to laugh at Grandpa when he'd head off and go fishing. But we wouldn't
be laughing that evening when he'd come back with some whore he picked up in
town.

All right, I thought the thread was going to cause problems but after reading some of the answers, I think this post might be the trouble maker:
Based on the question--"What song that Jimmy sings in concert that is famous/well known by being done by someone else"--I go with Southern Cross. CSN made it famous.
People have named lots of songs that, at least to me, I only know by Jimmy's version. A lot of those songs are songs I'd like to hear in concert, but staying true to the question, I don't know how many of them fit. I love "Biloxi", love, love, love it, based my first cross country road trip just to spend a night there, and if I heard it in concert, I'd be a bawling mess. That being said, I don't think of it as a cover song. I've never heard anyone else sing it, never heard Jesse Winchester sing it (I don't think I've heard Jesse Winchester sing anything for that matter) I'm not saying what I know is law and rule, and I'm sure that in this world there are many people who have heard Jesse Winchester, but I think, and it's just what I think, that the original post was about songs that were hits/had been famous.

Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

i dont consider biloxi, bananna republics, great heart.... etc, etc jimmy covers. i understand they are, but they were not "famous" until he did them....that is not the original question

If I had to choose one, it would be "Mexico." In reality, I wish he would skip the popular covers all together and replace them with some of his earlier work. And while this opinion seems to go against the grain, I think his version of Southern Cross is awful. But, that is just how I feel. I accept the fact that others enjoy it.

I'd have to vote for Brown Eyed Girl.
Sometimes I can get down on it, be all "play your own stuff Jimmy" but, when it's on, I can't help but dance and sing to it. It's just a great song.
