I am heading down to the BVI for Thanksgiving. Just me and my tent (I plan on camping on Jost Van Dyke).
Any advice? I've read a travel book on the islands, so I have a pretty good idea as to what I will be doing, but I am looking for some real inside info.
Thanks

AND visit Seddy and Raquel (and the kids) at the ONE LOVE--you might be lucky enough to have Seddy do his amazing magic tricks...if you're there on a Thursday, sign up for Ivan's BBQ, and bring BUG SPRAY.

LOVE the BVI!!!!!!!

If you run into any trouble go to the Royal BVI Yacht club in Tortolla ask for Emma. Tell her Meka Taulbee sent you. You'll be just fine!
Rain forest in Tortolla has had mixed reviews , but might be worth the hike!

Nice! My wife and I arrive on Jost December 1st. How long are you there for? Last year we did JVD and Virgin Gorda. Sandcastle on Jost and Biras Creek on VG. This year the VG portion has been thrown out the window. We were at Jost first and the whole time at Biras we were wishing we hadn't left Sandcastle. Check out the BVI forum at traveltalkonline.com for an unbelievable wealth of info.

We're heading down again ourselves just after Thanksgiving till mid-December....staying on Cane Garden Bay. Try to catch Quito playing there if you're on Tortola at night. He's fantastic! There's so much to see and do....you really can't go wrong, even if you choose to do nothing at all. Have safe travels and a wonderful visit!
Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost.

Tip: Say "good morning," "good afternoon," to everyone as you start up a conversation!! The BVIers are super friendly, warm, wonderful people, so be sure to greet everyone appropriately!

My favorite bar on Jost is One Love Bar. You must go see Seddy and Raquel. If you are lucky Seddy will do some tricks for you. I still can't figure out how he did all that stuff! Corsairs had really good food and Ivans BBQ was very good. Try and find out if Reuben Chinnery is playing anywhere. He was introduced at Ivans as the Jimmy Buffett of the BVI.

I have never been to the BVI but am also traveling there for Thanksgiving! I am going with a lot of people from my Parrothead Club here in NC and I am on the Endless Summer II yacht. I cannot arrive until Tuesday (November 20) so I am sleeping on deck. We are coming home Saturday. Maybe I'll see ya there!

Thanks to all for the advice. I fly out of JFK direct to St. Thomas on Weds and then will be catching a ferry to the BVI. My plan is to camp on Jost and check out Tortolla and Virgin Gorda during the days. The wife and kids are staying home. (The trip was my wife's idea and she surprised me by booking the flight a couple of weeks ago.)
It actually really is a recon trip for possible future trips with the family. As much as I enjoy the beach and a stiff drink, I am hoping to spend most of the days exploring the islands, so please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

I showed this to wifey and she just

I guess I've gotta try the "recon for future trips with the family" angle. Pure genius!
