There's a great article about Crystal River and manatees at
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/ar ... AP.DTL&o=0
That will take you to a video and a link to the story.

(Thanks to Jena Lockwood of the Latitude 38 PHC for posting the link on the Leader's List!)

My mom (!) got thrown from her canoe (!!) when she inadvertantly strayed between a manatee and her (the manatee's!!!) calf.

Yeah, I wanna get up close and personal, at least once...

Where I like to fish in the Everglades I see manatees at least several times a day.

I've never tried to swim with them, though. There are lots of 10 foot long gators sunning themselves along the shore and I don't think it would be a good idea to go for a swim. :o

Seeing them up at the Crystal River sounds awesome though. :D

Y'all can get "up close and personal" with the manatees... the only things I want to do that with are my wife, and my top 5 in the other thread :P

But if you get up close with a manatee, it'll show you're sensitive, and then others will put you in their top 5....

Seen 'em in the water in the keys, but was always fascinated with them even as a kid in the Northeast.
