Top 10 Trop-Rock CD's?

Post by frankbama07 »

Interesting topic. These are my favs out of my collection and why.
Maybe this will help some of the guys who want to know about the Trop-Rock world in which we all love. (excluding the the big boys like Buffett, Marley, Jerry Jeff)

What are your top 10?????

1. Jim Morris's- Bar Stools and Beach Chairs- I guess because it was my first trop rock cd it's owns me.

2.Eric Stone's- Trinidad to Tortola- Just got this and I don't know if it's because it's new or not, but it's freaking unreal. Awesome quality and writing.

3.Scott Kirby- Walking on Thin Ice- Just great music, writing and great to listen to while chillin outside on a nice cool evening.

4. Sunny Jim's- Tropical Trader- This cd really doesn't have a bad song on it at all. He's one of the most talented if not the most talents PH ARTIST out there. I love mexican ring.

5.Brent Burns- Perpetual Vacation. Saw him perform in Gulf Shores and have been a fan since. Awesome live! This cd brings back my memories on the Gulf

6. Jake and the Half Conched Band- Speaking of the Gulf! The song Life on the Gulf should be the Gulf's national anthem. This is the trop song of the year. Great live too. Can't wait to hear more from this guy.

7. Hugo Duarte- Don't be fooled by the Hat- Saw him in the Keys and was SOLD BABY! Awesome performer!

8. Kelly McGuire- I just got this too and never listened to Kelly before. I had a tough time deciding where to put this. I love it great writer and singer..Blame it on Buffett...dude you nailed it.

9. Gene Mitchell- Big Coconut- He has a style all his own, I would love to hear more from Gene, but this one always gets played a couple times a week. It was one of my first to purchase and just like the guy's vocals.
Big Coconut is a ear worm once I hear it I sing the damn thing all day long.

10. Mile Marker 24- Living on Key West Time- Bullseye if you pick up this cd. The songs Living on Key West time is worth the price of the cd.

There those are my favorite all timers.....at least for right now. :D

Gene Mitchell's newest one called Dancing On the Beach is a MUST and Sunny Jim's Post Cards from Seven Mile Beach and you totally left out any Mark Mulligan which you MUST have in a top 10 even if it means it's 11 deep

I don't have a top ten but some of my faves are (all by Jim Morris):
Some Nights You Never Go Home
Laid Back and Key Wasted
Looking For a Place To Happen
Bocanuts
Bar Stools & Beach Chairs
The Floating Opera
Land Of No Mondays

This Aint Duval Street - The Boat Drunks

I think Jerry Jeff's "Cowboy Boots & Bathin' Suits" should be included since you can't just go down to the store and pick it up. Great album.

Actually.... that was my mistake. I was thinking of his album "Be As You Are" but wrote "Poets & Pirates" instead. So change my number 5 to "Be As You Are".

I agree "Be as You Are" ranks up there as one of the best Island/Tropical cd's made. I love the laid back feel to the whole cd.

Fantastic cd by Jerry Jeff. I would love to see him revisit the Trop Rock scene and do another.

Bob Karwin Shamelessly Begs for your Vote

Post by bobkarwin »

Hi Everyone -

For those who don't know me, which is probably most of you, my name is Bob Karwin and I am a parrothead musician based out of So. Cal. You may have seen me at Phins to the West, Parrot Grande, Six String Music, Migration or playing on the street corner in front of your local Barnes and Noble.

I have had a few songs in rotation on Radio Margaritaville. Oh, and I will be performing on the Atlanta Parrothead Club's Cruise Around the Sun in March. OK, enough of that.

I am writing to announce that my new cd is finally here! It has been a long time coming, but after six months in production and three name changes, my new cd, “Have Sun, Will Travel,” is finally ready to go. If you need a 50 minute cubicle vacation, this cd is for you.

I have posted two tracks, "Should I" and "Days Move On" on my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/bobkarwin. But, you can hear clips from all 14 tracks on my main web site at www.bobkarwin.com

It should be up on iTunes, Rhapsody, etc in about 2 months. But, you can get a cd version now, though. Just go to the web site, www.bobkarwin.com, for ordering info.

Even if you don't buy a copy, please listen to the clips and drop me a note to let me know what you think. My email is bob@bobkarwin.com

All the best,

Bob Karwin
