Today we needed to buy tix for the upcoming shows in Irvine on Memorial Day Weekend. Since we didn't have the greatest seats at the show in San Jose, we decided to follow the "Ticket Buying Strategies" on cobo.org.

My wife was at home and I was at the office. We decided not to call the local L.A. or Orange County TicketMaster numbers and to use the Bakersfield lines.

In one ear I had my wife on her cell phone at home. In the other ear I was dialling TM. She was doing the same. We were both also frantically clicking the REFRESH buttons on our browsers.

About 10 minutes before the hour my wife got through to an agent. The agent was VERY cool and knew that she had to wait another few minutes before she could sell the tickets. So she occupied her time checking Lion King tickets, telling my wife about TM's policies and charges, giving my wife directions to Irvine Meadows, etc. Meanwhile, the agent just kept refreshing her computer until the moment came when she could sell the tickets.

The result: 4 tickets - 5th Row Orchestra Pit!

This will be the first concert for our Parakeets and I think it will be a magical experience for them!!

Bottom line, pholks: go to cobo.org and check their Ticket Buying Strategies. They really do work (plus it helps to get a friendly and understanding TM agent on the phone).

See ya in Irvine!

consider yourself lucky! even with those "strategies" it is very difficult to get any decent seats for the Irvine shows. so many seats are pre-sold to brokers or held for the corporate sponsors that most of the lower pavilion isn't even available for sale. which day did you get tickets for? Saturday or Monday? I can see seats like that being available for Monday, but not for Saturday.

The tickets are indeed for Monday night.

When I talked to an agent at about 10:05, the only seats left for Saturday were in the lawn section. I know that some don't consider me a "real" phan when I say that I'd rather be up close. Oh, well.

I got lucky, I guess. My brother and I wanted to take a Memorial Day weekend trip to LA from Boston to see Bubba. I was amazed that the phones were not tied up this morning I got through almost every time I called. I got 2 terrace tix for Saturday on the automated phone system, but I didn't get a confirmation # and the call just sort of ended. I called back and redialed 5 or 6 times until I got through again. I waited 15 minutes on hold for customoer service and explained to them that I didn't get a confirmation #. The guy took my info., gave me a confirmation, my seat location etc and I am all set. Needless to say, I was shocked. TM screwed up again but made it right. I got 2 loge seats for Monday on ticketmaster.com. I don't know how popular Jimmy is in CA, but I will say this, I am dreading April 7th. when tix for Tweeter Center (Great Woods) go on sale.

In the past, the Saturday (or Friday) shows at the Meadows are the only hard tickets to get on his west coast swing. I had a friend 1st in line a ticketmaster outlet told, 10 minutes before the show went on sale, that only Terrace (the back of the pavilion) and lawn were available. The LA Times has documented SFX's secret ticket deals with brokers. Basically brokers buy "licenses" to seats and can re-sell them for whatever they want. Nice.

You were smart trying for Monday first to get killer seats. Knowing that saturday was going to sell out quickly, i concentrated on getting lawn (still the most fun spot to be in at a buffett show) and then tried for monday. I could have had Loge seats but turned them down and got lawn instead. I'm happy. Still, i wish Buffett and SFX would open up the orchestra section to fans and not corporate sponsors or brokers. oh well. like that is ever going to happen.

I have to say, I got REAL lucky this Saturday. I managed to snag two pavillion seats, even though they are in the very last row. However, it wasn't easy...I got screwed twice. The first was with the lottery. I was the second person at the store, but the number that was drawn was the one immediately after mine, so as the lottery system works, I was sent to the back of the lottery line. Then, if that didn't bite already, when I got up to the register, the TicketMaster computer stopped working for about five minutes. The credit card of the guy ahead of me wouldn't go through, meanwhile the tickets were quickly disappearing. But in the end I managed to barely get mine. Anyway, that's my story!

I was pretty lucky this morning - Ticketmaster gave out wristbands and I ended up 2nd in line.

I ended up getting LOGE seats for the Saturday Irvine show - I almost passed out! I figured being second in line would almost ensure that I would be getting lawn seats - plus I was buying 8 tickets. The stars must have been properly aligned at that moment.
