I think if you can find a link to church of buffett orthodox. There is a link on there with translations to that and any other songs he has that has lyrics lyrics other than english. Hope that helps.

The song begins with lyrics in Tahitian:

Ia ora te natura
E mea arofa teie ao nei

The translation given is "Nature lives (life to nature), Have pity for the Earth, (Love the Earth)"

It concludes with the same verse plus:

Ua pau te maitai no te fenua
Re zai noa ra te ora o te mitie

Translated as: "Bounty of the land is exhausted, But there's still abundance on the sea."
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

huh. always wondered what those intro lyrics were, just kinda assumed spanish b/c they sound like it. thanks for the work translating...knowing what the lyrics say adds a whole new dimension to the song. even more beautiful....
If I had it all to do over again, I'd just get myself drunk and I'd jump right back in...

I always thought the words were Polynesian (i.e. Hawaiian  )

But then I've never actually seen any Tahitian text so I had nothing to compare this to....

Try Chordies.com also. They have many JB songs. I still have trouble with that frigging B chord though...
