Selleck is against compromising the memory of a television show he is proud to have starred in by appearing in a big-budget movie making fun of it. He says, "I tell you what worries me - because I love Magnum and we have loyal fans - is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it's OK. And I will not do that."
I agree with him 100%, and respect him for not taking the easy money that a cameo would pay him.
I wonder if he would reconsider if the script was a bonafide attempt at a real movie true to the tv series instead of a spoof of it.
I don't know if I would go see it even if they made a serious attempt at the movie. I just can't imagine anyone else playing the parts of the original cast.

Doesn't matter....without the original cast, I wouldn't go to see it.

From other interviews I've read, he won't have anything to do with it unless it's the original cast, which is about as likely to happen as me going on tour as a JB roadie.
Here's what he said in an interview a couple of months ago:
Tom Selleck wrote:Regardless of who they hire, assuming it’s not me, I think a lot of Magnum fans will be very upset. And I’ll be glad to hear it.
He knows the Magnum fans well.
The whole (relatively short) interview:

The morons in Hollywood who think TS is too old to play Magnum should take a look at the latest Indiana Jones trailer.... Harrison Ford is more than three years older than Tom Selleck....

Agreed. They can call it what they want, but without the original cast it's not Magnum PI.....

I don't think the original cast should do it nor a new cast.
I'm not sure I'd wanna see an old Magnum.
I prefer to think of Magnum as a freeloading slam hound in paradise. Well.....maybe that's what I wanna be
I read where he wanted to do a movie years ago but they passed on it so I think it's best to let it be.
I don't like what they did to Miami Vice. Totally miscast imo.
Still a good movie, but maybe they should have called it Bad Boys 3.

I think it could be done well with the original cast.
As far as an "old" Magnum, I guess it's not such a shock to me because I've followed all of TS's movies and watched him age.
I'm afraid they're going to do the same thing they did to Miami Vice.... blech....

Not to mentioned you have aged with him, and probably find him sexier now then when he first appeared as Magnum!

I know I won't see it if it's not the original cast. I loved the old Miami Vice but refused to see the recent movie.

Best looking 63 year old on the planet.
I've had a crush on the man since I was 20.

I know I've asked you this before, but don't remember the answer. Are you going to Hawaii this year if Jimmy plays a concert there?

I'll do my best, yes. Depends on work, etc.
(and while I'm there I'll go swimming in the tidal pool. gotta love Hawaii; no private beaches.

Good chance I'm going this year if an announcement is made before I make plans for the second half of the year, or if the dates don't intefer with said plans.
