BVI In January 2008!!!!

Post by Liar's Saloon MTK »

I am so VERY excited!! We have just booked our 1st trip to the Caribbean! We will be spending 8 wonderful nights at the Mongoose Apartments in Tortola right by Cane Garden Bay in January. Our trip was inspired by lilsalty & Continental Drifter III. They had so much fun there and the photos were so beautiful we just had to go there, there tales of delicious rum drinks, white sandy beaches, and the very nice people that are there we had no choice but to go see the Caribbean.
I am taking notes of all the BN"ers recommendations. I plan to swim everyday and to visit as many beach bars as possible. Here's my list so far, if there are any further suggestions please advise, thank you!!!

Oh my gosh, that sounds amazing! So many bars, so little time....

Makes me want to book it too, but I guess I'll just have to make do with my trip to Key West in December [smilie=sadlook.gif]

Have a fantastic time!

Whoa there, you're gonna be hard pressed to do all that in 8 days. My advice would be to relax and chill. Take things one day at a time. Remember that you're "on island time". Tortola is my idea of "paradise", and I think you'll enjoy yourself more if you just learn to do some "limin". Enjoy all that the BVI's have to offer, but take it slow mon, thats what livin on island time is all about. For what it's worth though, The Jolly Roger is one of my favorite places on Tortola.

Agreed that is a very aggressive agenda. Walking outside of the bay area is very difficult. My wife and I walked halfway to Bombas, a kind resident felt sorry for us and drove us the rest of the way. We taxied back. Taxis get pricey. There is a lot to see and do there, just don't spread yourself too thin. The island will always be there things don't change very quickly either.

Ah, MTK, that sounds like such a glorious trip....and I should know! :) Since you will be just steps from Cane Garden Bay, the following places are just moments from your accommodations: Quito's, Big Banana, Stanley's, Myett's, Rhymer's, Callwoods, and yet 2 other bars known as Da Wedding and the Columbus Sunset bar. Those are no problem to hit from the Mongoose!! We took the trip into Road Town (very congested, kind of a long $20 taxi ride one way) to go to Pusser's..and that's all we did. I don't think I'd do it again. You could head directly to the Jolly Roger from the ferry and then have Elroy Jr. from the Mongoose pick you up and take you to the Apartments! If you want to do all of the Jost Van Dyke places, you should try to stay overnight, since I think the last ferry leaves in the afternoon (4 something, I think). Getting to all of those Jost places would require mutliple taxis...When we went for the day, we taxied to White Bay and hit the White Bay bars, taxied back to Great Harbour & hit Foxy's and such and then got back on the ferry. We shall talk at length about these adventures on Thanksgiving!! You are going to LOVE the BVI!!!!

I think MTK will be able to accomplish his mission. It is like our first night in Vegas. Do not forget to hit the duty free shop at the St Thomas airport as soon as you arrive for their free rum tasting and of course a cold rum punch awaits you the moment you step into the airport. I look forward to starting the holiday season at TB2 on Wednesday. We will discuss a strategy for your caribbean bar hopping over a couple of delicious Presbyterians!

Skinny Legs is cool. They have an outdoor dart board and the food is really good. The only problem for my wife and I was we took a cab there from Caneel Bay and had a big problem getting a cab to come there to bring us back. You basically have to wait for someone else to be dropped off by a taxi to get back to Cruz Bay. But I could see that being a good spot to catch a game.

you are right we were staying at cinnamon bay once and maho bay the other time, and they had had cabs to bring us you really need a car if you are coming from cruz bay area the cabs dont want to go out that far, 25 minutes, unless they want to watch the game we found you can line up rides with the cabs at the dock in cruz bay.

Hey MTK are you planning on spending any time on St Thomas? If so you must see Duffy's Love Shack. It is in the most untropical place ever - in a strip mall. But when you enter it you feel like you hit that place you think about when you are on the LIRR in January. Every drink you order get its own special tropical glass - and you get to keep it! Then when you leave make a left and about 50 yards is the Warehouse "a poormans bar". Why is it called that? Because you pour your own! Thats right baby! Rum to the heavens! Rum and coke was my choice and they have pool and the locals (and is it a locals place) were very friendly! Near there is Molly Molones were you can have an excellent lunch and the locals sell coconuts that they will gladly cut for you (the coconut water is ohhh so sweet especially with some rum!). There is more if you are interested, I'm not sure if you will have the family truckster or not so let me no if you need more info! :pirate:

We are definately going to check out St. Thomas!! I was trying to think what the name of the bar was that had it's own special glasses, I will consume many beverages there! You know how much I like to collect special glasses, I still think the Trader Vics Mai Tai glass from Vegas is the coolest. And yes, I will transport myself to the Poormans bar to sample the local rums, I will also choose to go with the rum and coke and I can't believe they have a pool too! After all these drinks we will then procees to Molly Malones for some tasty vittles. I like the coconut tip, I will have to carry some rum on me at all times. I welcome more info. on where else to go, I have a mighty mission ahead of me and I shall do my best to accomplish it.
