Along with probably hundreds more "true Parrotheads",I was not able to get tickets to the Tweeter Center for the September 1 show. I did everything right in my mind; using the phone, the internet at the same time right at 10:00. Stuck with it for over an hour, but you all know how that goes. No luck. I only wanted 2 tickets for me and my husband. I have only been lucky enough to see Jimmy once in Las Vegas and that was because of a wonderful man from Alabama who had extra tickets that some friends of his could not use because they could not go. He sold them to me at face value. He easily could have gotten alot more for them even though they were way in the back of the venue; but he did not ask for more. That my friends shows a "true Parrothead's" character. On the otherhand there are alot of people who would not consider themselves to be scalpers, that bought more tickets for this show in September then they needed, just to make a buck. What makes me sick is that on Ebay just last night there were a pair of tickets that were auctioned off for over $1200. Granted they were in the second row, center, but these tickets only had a face value of $59. I love Jimmy just as much as the next "Parrothead" but I cannot see paying that ridiculous amount for anyone. I wonder if that would flatter Jimmy knowing that someone would pay that much to see him or if it would disgust him. He's not making any more because of these people. The person who bought these tickets is just as bad as the person selling the tickets. I will not ever by from a broker or scalper (same thing in my mind) and I would never buy more tickets than I needed just to make a buck. I just wish more people felt the same way. I know some people will wonder what I was doing checking out Ebay for tickets. The answer is I was curious to know what some people will be selling them for. There were a few people who were not trying break the bank with their "extra tickets" but I would still not bid on them. I know that there are decent people out there who will sell their extras for face value, maybe I will be lucky again and find that person. To all you people who do have tickets and are going to make a few dollars at the same time, Have a great time.

Sheri:

I feel for you and your husband, as I wound up in the same spot as you. My wife and did much as you did and still wound up empty at Tweeter, MA.

However, being a firm believer in free market economies, secondary ticket reselling is a business, and those guys get what they do because of nothing more than free trade. If the demand was not so high, you would be able to get right through to Ticketmaster, and the scalpers could not get the prices that they do. With high demand concerts like Buffett in MA, unless you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, you have to decide for yourself what attending the show is worth to you.

Like it or not, that is what a free market is all about. We are ALL trying to make a buck where we can. Like it or not, that is the way the world turns.

BTW, for the record, I have never scalped concert tickets, although I have on occasion resold tickets for face value to friends.

The luck of the lottery draw, pure and simple! After seeing the slow-mo ticket people at various outlets, I bit the bullet and headed to "ground zero", Great Woods itself, and lucked out, BIG TIME!!

Sheri,
Totally agree with you about the whole ebay situation. Arent there laws in MA that a tickrt can only be sold for a couple of bucks above face value?? Then I see that these people are claiming that the value printed on their LAWN ticket is $180??
Oh well, as long as you can get down to the parking lot, you can still enjoy the atmosphere (without spending a dime).
Hope you can get some tix

I'm glad someone agrees with me. It seems as though there are alot of mixed feelings on this subject. I have never had this much trouble getting tickets to any other concert act. I don't usually get "good" tickets but I do get them. To think that there are some Parrotheads who get to see Jimmy at least once every year if not more than that amazes me. I only saw him once and that was only because I was lucky enough to find someone to sell tickets at face value. I wouldn't have boughten them otherwise. Could I be so lucky again? These people who quote these enormous prices for lawn tickets have it made because they know there are people out there who will buy them. Would they buy the tickets if they had to pay that much? What's the limit? Where does it end?

I don't think anyone out there has worse luck than me. For the 2nd (yes I said SECOND) time in my life I drew the LAST number in a lottery for Buffett tickets! You wouldn't catch me complaining about first come first serve- that's the way it should be!
