MY KID IS IN THE QUARTERFINALS!
It's football time in TN (and everywhere else)
Henry County made it to the quarter finals last year. We have done it again this year!! I found this out on the Friday of MOTM. Jim called me and was totally hyped. "WE MADE IT TO THE FINALS" was all I could make out of him.
2 Weeks ago, a Henry Co. Army man, fresh home from Iraq dropped the game ball in via helicopter. That was really cool. We won that game and broke records for score numbers 70 to 14
Then last week, Hank Willaims Jr did the same thing and he modified the Monday Night Football song to be the HENRY COUNTY FOOTBALL TEAM. Well, Hank DOES live here. woohoo. We won that game 55 to 7
...anyway, tonight, the same helicopter dropped the game ball in and it was delivered by LAST years Quarterback who has gone on to a great college career. Calvin McNairl is a great young man and he is a terrific roll model for our boys.
I feel like the loudest, screaming Mom ever. Except, Mollie isn't feeling well and we came home at half time. It is 26 degrees right now and those boys are COLD!
So, I sit at home, listening to it on the radio, in my warm house. It doesn't look so good for us at the moment but these boys can bring it back. We beat Memphis Melrose already once this year! RIGHT?
GO HENRY COUNTY PATRIOTS! GO NUMBER 72!!!

We are 12 and 1 and we play Maplewood at home next Friday.
All we have here to do is High School Football. The entire county is involved. Those who do not play, support. Those who play, play hard. Those parents of those who play, have no voice now!
Again, I'm am SO proud of my boys!!!

Henry County 27, Melrose 26
PARIS - Before Friday, Shonte Sims' only career touchdown had come in
the 2006 playoffs.
The Henry County sophomore safety duplicated his feat on Friday in what
may become the most memorable play in Patriots' football history.
With 1:27 remaining and Memphis Melrose running out the clock with a
six-point lead, Sims came up the middle on a blitz, stripped the football
from Melrose quarterback Tromarcus Toney and went 40 yards for a
touchdown, giving Henry County an improbable, 27-26 Class 4A state
quarterfinal win.
"He was going to hand it off, and I stripped it from him and did what I
could do with it," said Sims, who was given the game ball. And why not,
considering he had grabbed it?
Sims' fumble return punctuated a Henry County comeback for the ages
and set up a 4A state semifinal showdown with Maplewood, which beat
Hillsboro, 18-17. Last season, Henry County lost at home to Hillsboro in
the state semifinals.
Henry County's Dominique Allen ran for 127 yards and a touchdown, and
quarterback Marsalis Teague threw for 59 yards and a touchdown, while
running for 71 yards and another score.
Henry County improved to 12-1, while Melrose finished its season at 9-4.
Early on, however, it appeared it would be the Golden Wildcats extending
their season after jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.
"We were down early by 20 against the best defense in Tennessee," Henry
County coach Joe Gaddis said. "Our defense played really well after the
first quarter, and our offense did some great things.
"We've been talking about wanting to score on defense all year and we
never had. Finally we did when the game was on the line and they were
running the clock out. It was a storybook finish."
Without wasting any time, the Golden Wildcats used four plays and 1:19 to
take the opening possession 69 yards. Toney scored on a 1-yard run, then
hit Courtney Pittman on the two-point conversion. Late in the quarter,
Toney found Justin Holloway in the back of the end zone from 29 yards,
extending Melrose's lead to 14-0.
It went from bad to worse for Henry County seconds later when Melrose's
Steven Ray Smith returned a fumbled lateral 33 yards for a touchdown.
The missed two-point conversion gave Melrose a comfortable 20-0 lead.
The Patriots methodically chipped away at the deficit with Teague throwing
a 6-yard touchdown pass to Tyrail Jackson early in the second quarter, then
scoring on a 3-yard run to pull the Patriots within 20-13 at the half.
Allen's 39-yard touchdown run with 44 seconds left in the third tied the
score at 20-20. But Melrose came right back using 11 plays to march 75
yards, and regained the lead at 26-20 on Gabriel Nash's 13-yard run. The
Golden Wildcats missed the two-point conversion.
