I was one of the ones who waited in line at a TM location with two other friends, only to have us be 42nd, 49th, and 57th in line after the lottery number was drawn. Sure I was upset, but I was at a location 3 hours away from Great Woods and there had to be more than 100 people in line (surprisingly most looked like Parrot Heads not scalpers). Then I thought.... Great woods seats 19,000 per show, that's 39,800 for two shows, the bottom line is Jimmy Buffett has more than 39,800 fans who would like to see him at Great Woods! What is Ticket Master suppose to do? How can they make it fair? I read people saying they arrived at 6am only to be shut out by the lottery, well a recent as 8 years ago there was no lottery, and people camped out overnight to be first in line, sometimes as early as 6pm the night before. You know what people were saying back then? " It's not fair these people camped out all night, I got here at 6am and got shut out". there are allot of people who wait out that are scalpers and/or brokers who make it harder for us to get tix, we can all b****, p*** and moan about them but they aren't going away, we have to learn to deal with them. So on Saturday morning as I stood 42nd in line I struck up a conversation with a couple in front of me, where as I said pretty much what I wrote above, they agreed with me, there is no way to weed out the true Buffett fans to sure they get tix and the lottery is the only fair way. After discussion this with this couple I got a phone call that I as hopping to get, three of my other friends at a different location had drew 2 numbers in the top 10 and grabbed 12 tix for the Saturday show....... So our group will be in this year, the unfortunate part is I already am planning for next years onsale because I know it will be a fight!

Hey "Anonymous" what you failed to mention in your post is, did you and your other three friends get tickets to the concert? If you did, how many did you get all together and how many did you really need? You mentioned that the other three friends in different areas got twelve tickets. I guess you have an awful big group of friends to have to have all those tickets. I hope that you all didn't just buy extras so you could sell them later. Maybe you were all just buying them for "other friends". Your "friends" must think the world of the 6 of you guys because you stood in line for them. I only wanted two tickets and thats all I would have bought. Maybe I need more friends. I would have made my friends wait in line though. Let me ask you this; what if,when it was your turn in line and you finally got to buy your tickets and the ticket agent told you there were only 1 or 2 left, would you worry about your "friends" then? You see I just have a problem with people who buy all the tickets they can even though they don't really need them. It's not just the brokers and Scalpers that are hurting us. And don't tell me that doesn't happen. Just check out the ticket swap. Most of these people would never consider themselves "scalpers". Some are not asking that much over face value but it still sucks. I know that ticket master cannot do much about this but how about a change in the attitude of the people who are buying them. I don't mean to bad mouth you. And if it sounds like I am, I'm sorry. You may very well be a person of great character and you probably did need all those tickets. I can only hope so. I'm done whining now.

He was one of 6 people in different lines, 12 tickets is not unreasonable. I had 4 different senarios set up under the 4 ticket minimun that could have gotten me as many as 16 tickets, since we had no way to communicate during the ticket blitz. IF (notice that BIG "IF") I ended up with more than the 4 I needed they would have been sold to other parrotheads at face! Why are you assuming he would do otherwise?

Caribbean Soul- I'm not trying to dog someone; call it a moment of big disappointment on my part. These tickets are so hard to come by and I know that alot of it has to do with luck. It's just that when I hear about people who get the max amount of tickets (some of which they do not need) and then they have friends who are also getting the max and I can't get just two, it really bums me out. Anonymous and friends had an opportunity to claim as much as 36 tickets total. Twelve tickets are not unreasonable, but he didn't mention whether or not that was all they were able to get. He just stated that his friends in another area got them. I know it's impossible to communicate between different locations. My whole point is that I hope that no matter how many tickets they were able to buy, they sell any extras they may have to others who had no luck and at face value. You have to admit that there are people who do buy more than they need so that they CAN make a profit. I'm sorry if I sounded like I was accusing this person of that. I do not want to ruffle any Parrothead feathers. Maybe I will have better luck next time.

USUALLY I need only two tickets for my hubby and me. (OK, so now that I have a BIGGER Parrothead Family, I'll need to go for more.) We have always stood in line fot the outlet in our neck of the woods (A Publix Grocery Store North of Atlanta) and I have to say it's fun to meet people who stand in line. Yeah, we have frozen our collective buns off, but well.... Anyway - the point of this is that we start talking to folks around us and EVERY year we got tickets by saying - If we get a lower lottery number, we'll be glad to let you in with us, can we do the same with you? One year my hubby picked #2 in the lottery and we got our 2 seats, plus someone who needed 4 seats "piggy-backed" with us. One year I picked 51 and a guy who picked #4 let me piggy-back with him. Each year it has happened that way. I believe that what goes around comes around. If I can help others, I will. And in turn, I have found people to be very kind in return. Getting more tickets than you need is just plain wrong unless you are "selling" them to Phellow Phans for FACE VALUE.
That's my 2 cents worth.....

I disagree, there is least one way to
ensure that only Jimmy Buffett fans get tickets, or at least get ticket priority. Springsteen
has done this for some of his smaller venues,
it might not work well with large venues. The
basic concept is: you pay by credit card when you
buy your tickets. You pick your tickets up
on the day of the show at the ticket booth
with both a photo ID and the credit card you
used to buy the tickets. Then you are allowed
to immediately enter the concert. This
eliminates pretty much any possibility of
scalping.
A second possiblity is to
allow members of the fan club to buy tickets
for one show only before they go on sale to the
general public. Of course,
scalpers can still get around
this by joining the fan club several hundred
times under fictitious names.

Anonymous-I agree with your first possibilty that the tickets could be picked up at the venue the day of the show. I imagine though it would take an awful amount of time to get everyone into the show with the larger venues, but it seems like the fairest way. You could get some kind of confirmation slip from ticket master to take to the show with you along with the card you used and a photo id. and make sure that the whole group that you may have boughten tickets for are there with you. Of course Ticketmaster probably would find a way to screw this whole concept up. It's nice to dream though
