Jimmy and his political views

I am guessing Jimmy is probably more liberal than I am like all the other artists I love (hello Bruce!) but that is fine with me- I seperate my musical tastes from my political leanings and feel artists, like other citizens have a right to their opinions and to letting their voices be heard. No artists will influence my vote, not even Oprah and it really doesn't matter to me if an artist may have a different political view than I have. That being said, I don't know that I have heard any political statements from Jimmy and I certainly support many of his causes such as saving manatees. I prefer celebrities engage in philanthopy rather than political activities but again, it is their choice to make, not mine, and if it bothers me I don't have to listen.

. .the closest he came to expressing his views on Politics, was to thank them for their support of his efforts with the " Save the Manatee " project. .

B&J,I don't think any of us believe we have to believe exactly as Jimmy does. I expect most of us would be at least a little insulted to have someone imply that we can't think for ourselves.

I'm curious...your original comment about his political views came right after the post about him visiting soldiers in the hospital. Did you find that to be a political statement from him?

Jimmy does have as much right to express his political opinions as any of us.

You don't seem to feel it is wrong for you to post your political leanings so I'm not sure why you would find it so terrible if he exercises his rights as an American to feel differently than you do.

I don't see any of the replies you got (nor is this one meant to be) flaming. I'm just not sure I understand your concerns.

And sorry Jen but if he ran for anything I'd probably be first in line to vote for him!

Let's not drag ourselves through the mud with politics at BN. That's a topic that ruins COUNTLESS messageboards across the internet and breeds boardtrolling. So we need to be mindful of that.

Furthermore, does it matter? If JB's so-called politics bother you, why stay on the site? Why listen to his music? I can't stand Paris Hilton so you know what I do? I ignore her and any news story I see published about her. It's pretty simple, as far as I'm concerned.

What makes us different makes us great; coming from such different backgrounds makes this site something special that can't generally be found on the internet (because of aforementioned board trolls on other sites). Let's not censor ourselves or Jimmy in the name of something as stupid as politics.

Letting it get in the way is counter to what I believe is the Way of the Parrot.

Two subjects that need to be avoided between casual acquaintances are politics and religion. As long as entertainers don't use concerts as a forum to promote their views they're okay with me. Remember when Richard Gere jumped the shark at the Oscars? A big No-No. If you're invited on a talk show that's a different deal.

We all know the things Jimmy is deeply concerned about. Of course it makes a huge difference when you have enough money to be fiscally liberal. That's okay. It should be easy to determine which candidates he may support. It's America. You vote for whom you want and move on.

I have benefitted from quite a few of his political barn storming tours he did with a few of the Florida Dems. I could play dem. for a day. Got to sing on stage with him 1 year in Orlando, and my son got his acoustic guitar signed at one of those.

Although I might be dead wrong, I suspect JB isn't tremendously vocal about his political views with his friends, either. He's had close friends over the years among the ranks of senior Naval Officers, most of whom tend to be fairly conservative.
