Jimmy and his political views

Is it OK to be a JB fan and be against his liberal views?? It seems that if you bring up his politics on this forum you are flamed.

In the handbook it says that you have to agree with Jimmy on EVERYTHING!! ( you did get your copy of the parrothead handbook didn't you?)

I'm sorry that you feel flamed....we just try to keep things as light as possible on here. Political stuff just seems to bring out the worst in people and is the quickest way to kill a thread.....We don't ban politcal discussions on here but if they do happen, be assured that the mods are keeping a close eye on them to make sure they stay nice

Try bringing it up in a nicer way, that's all. :D

And welcome to BN!

I'm very happy that he leaves the politics backstage, or on his plane. You don't see it at his (non-fundraiser) concerts, and I sure like it that way, not because I agree or disagree with him, but because I like my music events politics-free.

I couldn't care less about his political views, unless he's running in an election where I have to vote for or against him.

And that is all I ask. My vote means the same as him. I just hate any public figure (Oprah, etc) who thinks that my vote should be based on their opinion.

It's perfectly acceptable to not agree with Buffett's politics. From the little political viewpoints that I've observed from him, he's not Bush's biggest supporter, but he's not a far-left wing liberal either. Last year, he supported Kinky Friedman's run as an independent for Governor of Texas, and I think I read here somewhere here (though not sure of the validity or accuracy) that he's supporting Bill Richardson, perhaps one of the most moderate of all the candidates. He also recently has worked with Floridian Republican Governor Charlie Crist about manatee protection.

I consider it a blessing that the most politically outspoken he's been is revising one verse of a song he plays only occasionally (that already talked about government) to criticize the government's handling of Hurricane Katrina.

I would have thought he would be suporting Hillary Rodham Clinton as from what I can remember he is a friend of the Clinton's.

I'm nothing close to being a liberal, but that's not why I'm a Jimmy Buffett fan.
I'm a Jimmy Buffett fan because he puts on some damn good concerts and has written hundreds of damn good songs.
If he ever did turn any of his concerts into political rallys, I think we'd have to come to a parting of the ways. But as long as he does what he does, I'll be one of his most devoted fans.

I also read somewhere where he's supporting Bill Richardson, worked with Florida governors Charlie Christ, and yes, even Jeb Bush on protecting the manatees.
I also read where he was supporting Kinky Friedman for governor of Texas (so was I).
As for his support for Hillary-if that's true, I'd be very disappointed, but it's HIS choice, and, like the rest of us, he gets a choice. Heck, look at the British-THEIR king is a woman, so, if Hillary becomes OUR king in Jan. of '09, que sara sara.

That is the one thing that I like about JImmy, he keeps his political views out of the shows. And to kind of turn the table, HIS vote counts just as much as mine. Just because he is a public figure doesn't mean he should hide in some closet when it comes to what HE believes. I make my views just as public, only in different ways then Jimmy. If we start censoring celebs, the little guy is sure to follow....Does that make sense?

I've always considered both politics & religion as rather private, personal matters for each of us to deal with based on our own set of standards & beliefs. I respect the fact that Jimmy makes his opinions known on such matters and other issues of concern (like the environment, for example), but doesn't try to change his fans.

I guess I view him as being a responsible public figure rather than an annoyance as others tend to be.....

Looks like you started it. You brought it up in the '07 Top News story thread. http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64602
bobandjodi wrote:I dont know about 2007, but you know JB will be all over the news in 2008 supporting some liberal Democrat for President and badmouthing Republicans.

. .yep, agree. . .and that's all I'm gonna say about that . .

bobandjodi wrote:Sorry to offend all the Hillary fans out there. I am sure Jimmy Thanks you. And I know you all support whatever he does.

Oh Yea, Jimmy and Kerry did fine in '04.

I guess its wrong to disagree with Jimmy on his politics.

And my one vote means the same as his liberal vote!!!
and again the responses
UpstateNYPH wrote:Everyone has their own opinion regarding politics, and once again, this thread has nothing to do with politics.
SMLCHNG wrote:I'm not a fan of Hillary.
I do not support whatever Jimmy does.
Nope, not wrong to disagree with Jimmy and his politics.
I'm not liberal, conservative, or any political affiliation.
This is simply not what this thread is about.
Where is the flaming?
How is that '07 news?

And like everyone else, I didn't see it as necessary to be brought up. Wrong place, wrong thread. That is what ALL of the responses said in reguards to both of your post. No one flamed you!
Not tring to p*** you off, just setting the facts straight
BTW, I "usually" vote republican

I agree.. unless I can sit down with the endorser and ask questions
about this or that I tend not to follow what I'm told to do..

WAIT... :o that is for anything in my life... not just voting..

If I cared about an artists political views I wouldn't listen to most of them. However, if they decide to bring it to the stage and no matter what side they are on I will NEVER go again! No matter who it is.

I don't feel like that bringing up political views here is nearly as bad as it used to be as a matter of fact there was a VERY good and VERY laid back discussion about socialized/international healthcare the other day.

 Flashback.. someone here called me a "Panty Waisted Liberal "
I asked a friend of mine (a Senators son) about that and He laughed
He told me that some of my views were so far right
that Nixon, Regan and BOTH Khans had to look right to see me..

I do not discriminate against those that do not agree with me. I pay for JB recordings because I enjoy the music not because I support some political agenda.

. .I am not a part of the " nose to butt " sheep line when it comes to Politics . .

. . Jimmy doesn't influence me anymore than I do him, when it comes to how we vote . .

. .who knows. . .maybe he votes like me. . .maybe he doesn't . .

. .really doesn't matter to me . . .

To put it bluntly, who give a $hit about his political views?

one thing about Jimmy that I have always respected is that is rarely if ever brings up politics during his shows . . . all I have ever heard is a jab here or a joke there . . . unlike Eddie Vedder and Bono who go on 10 minute long rants about world issues. If I pay 100 bucks + for a ticket to hear music I want to hear music . . . what Jimmy does and what Jimmy believes in his private life is really his business and I don't care . . .

he is just a rock star who flies around in one of his numerous prvate jets like Bono and then tells people to respect the environment . . .

who gives an f . . .

Jimmy is a smart man with a VERY large and very diverse fan base. He knows that it would not be smart to rant and rave about his political views.

I think he does a pretty good job keeping his views sort of quiet.
He would only hurt himself by carrying on about politics.
