Being held at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo...70,000 fans, the largest ever to see a live hockey game. My Penguins vs. the Sabres.

Tickets sold out in 30 minutes. But they are saying the success of this could generate more outdoor games in the future.
There's been a lot of talk here in Michigan about staging a Red Wing outdoor game as well.
Few years back Michigan/Michigan State held "The Cold War" outdoors game at Spartan Stadium before over 74,000 fans. The game was a TOTAL success!!!

I read an article in one of the NY papers yesterday that the NHL wanted the Rangers to play in Yankee Stadium. Supposedly the Yankees said no because they turn all the water pipes off in the winter. I guess nobody knows how to turn them back on.

Next May (into June) I'll be in Oklahoma City for 7 days of action on the diamond. Only $90 for the whole event ticket. That's a good deal, right?
Some of you may prefer the CWS in Omaha, but I'm headed to the WCWS....I prefer the ladies, hmm, wonder why?

The company holiday party (next Wednesday) is at the local hockey team arena. I think a free sporting event, with food and drink, can't be beat. Colorado Eagles, CHL Champions '05 & '07!!

The firm used to have a picnic every summer, now they have a "summer outiing" instead. The last one I went to was probably about 5 years ago, they rented the picnic area behind the left field bleachers in Shea Stadium. I don't remember who the Mets played but Mike Piazza hit 2 HRs and they won. One HR went over the bleachers into the picnic area and one of the partner's kids got the ball.

Nobody mentioned horse racing?
I"m with you Creeky on the rugby. Back when I was playing I
used to attend the big tournament they have every St Patrick's Day
in Washington, DC. Lots of fun and parties that would make bikers
blush. My first big league baseball game was the Indians and the
Yankees back when the Yanks had a guy playing 1st base named
Mickey Mantle. The Indians walked Mickey every time in a doubleheader
and I've cared little for the Indians since then. Later I became an Orioles
fan, but my mom and dad like Boston, so I cheer them on too. :pirate:

In college, we'd always go and watch the women's volleyball team play. You could always get good seats. And college baseball too.

Everyone should check out professional surfing if they can, like the ECSC!
East Coast Surfing Championships. ......... http://www.surfecsc.com
Image

ECSC is North America's Oldest Running Surfing Competition and the second oldest continuously-run surfing contest in the world. More than 100 of the world's top professional surfers, male and female, and an estimated 300 amateur surfers will travel to Virginia Beach to "ride the curl" at the Oceanfront and compete for combined cash prizes of $40,000.

Held annually in Virginia Beach, Virginia since 1963, ECSC is more than just surfing. Dozens of people also take part in other competitions including skimboarding, volleyball, an oceanfront 5K run, a swimsuit competition and the extreme sport of skateboarding. Live bands perform for free on an oceanfront stage throughout the weekend. A cost is involved to participate in competitions, but all activities are free and open to the public.

I've gone to most of 'em dating back to the early 70's. In 1992, ECSC set up a "Surf Museum" for the entire summer to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the ECSC. I loaned a ton of stuff for the museum displays (only the very famous Pete Smith of Pete Smith's Surf Shops donated more).

1992 was also the summer my wife and I got married. When we combined houses she tried to tell me to toss all of my junk from my bachelor days ....... but I was able to counter argue "Honey, this isn't junk, these are MUSEUM ARTIFACTS". :D

In 2009 I'll be turning the big 5-0. The only thing that'll make that tolerable will be that I'll be old enough to compete in the ECSC LEGENDS LONGBOARD DIVISION. 8)

Same, plus women's basketball as well. Hell of a fun team to watch.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Having attended the 2003 AC in New Zealand I would have to disagree. Nothing like being out on the water watching the event live. You just don't get the same atmosphere on tv. :D
