Sporting events to see.

OK we had a thread awhile back on the top sporting events you should go to
most of us agreed that we would have trouble funding some of the events..
so here is a list I want to bring up, please add to it as needed.
my quest: to list things we as "normal" fans, can afford the time and money to see.

Minor league games.. Any of them.. Hockey,Basketball,Baseball. not too many minor league football games
College games.. the big four are common, Try a Gymnastics meet, Volleyball game, Rugby........
Sit in the Bleachers.. the cheap seats are a great time.
go to a local dirt track race.. Saturday night on the dirt Baby...
go to a local Drag race
if there is an Olympic trial near you go..
go to a Local golf Tournament PGA,LPGA,NIKE
College again... See the ladies play.. In some sports the only people in the stands are the parents and family friends
A Kayak Rodeo is a blast
If you live close to Canada.. Or can travel, go to a CFL game.
A Hill climb
Training Camp..
Go to one of the “little” Bowl games.. There are sooo many now, I think most of us live close to one.
Rodeo , Local or Pro.
Any Touring teams promoting international play.. We went to a Volleyball match and had a great time.
A Cowboy action shooting tournament

Things I would love to do, but may be inching towards not cost effective
College World series
A “Big” Bowl Game.
A “Rival” game.. Michigan/Ohio, Miami-FL State, ETC.
Nascar Weekend.. All of the events.. With the next Monday off .. To sleep.
A Playoff game.. Any one involving one of my Pro teams.. (Wait Wayne.. They need to make the playoffs first) :-? :-?

Anyone?

I can say I've been to a minor league hockey (the Providence Bruins) and a minor league baseball (the Pawtucket Red Sox) games.

Been to a rival game -- somewhat -- Been to a Cowboys vs. Redskins game in DC.

I really gotta go see a CCL game. I've lived in New England most of my life and never saw a game in that league.

I'd like to get to a NASCAR race sometime. Went to the Indy 500 in 1995.

I saw the LA Kings, Gretzky era, play Monteral in a game 5 semi final game in LA. I think the game went into double overtime before Gretz beat Felix Potvan top shelf, glove side :D 'cause everyone knows Felix can spread his legs and hit the floor faster than Madona ever could.... you know, close the tweener shot :o

It took me over a month to get my voice back to normal. That was probably the most exciting sporting event I attended.

Another sort of funny story, Lakers vs Boston in the finals... the game where Magic won the game with the "Jr. jump hook." We were watching an Angel's game and 90% of the fans were watching the basketball game around the concession stands on the close circuit TV. For the first hour of the baseball game, all of the cheering was coming from inside where the basketball game was being watched. The place went NUTS when the Lakers beat Boston that night. Can't remember who the Angel's were playing or the outcome of that game.

Going to a Stanley Cup Playoff game was high on my to-do list.
When the Tampa Bay Lightning were making their run a few years ago, playoff tickets were embarrisingly easy to get.

A friend and I watched Philly blow the Lightning out in Tampa during the semi-finals.

It was not particularly expensive, and it was worth every penny!

Spring training baseball in Florida has always been an excellent bargain.

Didn't you hear that was actually the working title for the Boats, Beaches, Bars, and Ballads but the record company nixed that idea.

I was thinking of coming down to the Cape one weekend this year.

I agree with minor league events, especially Baseball, Hockey, and Racing

Clay Buckholz was pitching for the Greenville Drive right before he was called up to the Red Sox and pitched a no hitter.

We lost our beloved Greenville Grrrowl over a year ago due to poor attendance

We had the G'ville Braves, a ATL Braves farm team, but lost them a few years back. Luckly we picked up another with the Drive. I'm not a huge Red Sox fan, but atleast it wasn't the Yank-Mes.

As far as racing goes, a NASCAR event is pretty good, BUT NHRA Drag Racing is 100 times better. In NASCAR you have to bring binoculars to see the action in the pits or catch a glimps of a driver. In Drag Racing, you walk down Nitro Alley, their pit area. At one point at Bristol, as I'm walking, I look next to me and walking next to me is Top Fuel driver Doug Herbert. Later as I'm walking around the staging lanes taking pictures of the cars, Top Fuel driver Hillary Will comes running out of the Porta John and running back to her car, about knocking me over :o    . Now that's up close. And ticket prices are good too. A Sunday ticket at a NASCAR race is $100. A 3 day ticket at NHRA, Fri., Sat., & Sun., is $100.

But like what has been mentioned, go out and see/support the local guys :D
