I'm not familiar with his stuff. What's he like?

I have enjoyed Carl Hiaasen and Randy Wayne White. Is he anything like either of them?

I prefer Dorsey to these two. Serge Storms is my favorite literary character of all time.

It took me a while to get into the first book, but once it gets going, you can't put it down.

The last couple were a let down for me but I know I'll get it.

Really? I thoroughly enjoyed Hurricane Punch... the wild trek across Florida with the hurricanes and everything, I was laughing the whole time.

Ya know, actually I did enjoy Hurricane Punch. I thought it was much better than The Big Bamboo. I guess I was just thinking a hurricane setting had already been done in Hammerhead Ranch Motel...but it was different and funny.
It's kinda hard for me to pick a fave since they're all pretty good.
I wish he'd bring Lenny into the mix with Serge and Colman, at least for a while anyway.

I've tried reading a couple of Dorsey's books and find them slow to get going. But I'll try his new one any way.

If you enjoy Florida writers, in addition to Randy Wayne White, be sure to try Tom Corcoran (Jimmy's buddy & co-author of "Fins") and Bob Morris, too.

Tom Corcoran is great too! He has a new book coming out this year also...

I am almost done with Cadillac Beach.....then onto Torpedo Juice, Big Bamboo, Hurricane Punch and then the new Atomic Lobster! Cant wait!

I need a new book, so maybe I'll pick up a Dorsey book! Haven't read any of his stuff. Which one do you recommend starting with? I'll see if they have it down at my local library.

You definitely want to read them in order.

Florida Roadkill
Hammerhead Ranch Motel
Orange Crush
Triggerfish Twist
The Stingray Shuffle
Cadillac Beach
Torpedo Juice
The Big Bamboo
Hurricane Punch

The first one takes a while to get into, so don't get discouraged if it doesn't grab you right away.

I guess it's different for everybody. The first one grabbed me right away.

And I second Bob Morris.
Bahamarama and Jamaica Me Dead were pretty good.

I see via amazon that there are some old characters back in this one. Johnny Vegas, Coleman and Lenny together. I was hoping that would happen one day. Should be fun!
