The Sox and Rays have tied a Major League record of 7 home runs hit by both teams combined in the same playoff game.

Lopez must've just tied, if not set, a record for shortest (and least effective) relief appearance. One pitch, one hit, one run.

That's the second time in my memory that it's happened.

The other time was in the 1964 World Series-game 3, Cardinals vs. Yankees.
Barney Schultz, the Cardinals reliever, came in during the bottom of the 9th with the score tied at 1-1.
Mickey Mantle led off the inning. One pitch from Schultz, game over.
Yankees 2, Cardinals 1.
It was a day game, and I played hooky from school (7th grade) to see it. :D

Can someone take Timlin and Varitek out on a boat and sink it? Varitek couldn't hit water if he fell from a boat and Timlin throw the ball into the ocean if he was standing on a beach.

It was REAL nice in the years before free agency and when the OWNERS owned the teams, not the TV networks, and the OWNERS decided what times the games would be played.
I gaurantee that WHOEVER ends up in the World Series, all games will be sell outs, whether they play at 7:00 PM or 3:00 in the friggin' MORNING.
TV ratings will be through the roof too.

Francona's unreal playoff luck finally ran out last night. I understand why he sent Beckett back out there with a 6-5 lead, but he should've been on a very short leash. Instead, he leaves him in until he can face Longoria, who has been feasting on him all night. I was hoping Tito would choke on his gum and someone on the Boston bench would come to their senses.

The Sox have bailed Francoma out of a few tight spots already this post-season. He sends Dice-k out for the 8th in game 1 with his pitch count already over 100. Three times against the Angels he went against conventional matchup wisdom and left relievers in that resulted in lost leads, but they won 2 of them.

Both managers will have a tough decision if it comes to game 6: Who will start?

That's a good point, but I don't think it will too cold tonight, will it? Not by mid-October standards, anyway.

The Rays might want to think about putting in a Green Monster of their own in their new ballpark. They sure took advantage of that last night. Maybe the Sox need someone like Wakefield to mess up the Rays timing, 18 runs in the last two games.

Rays are the better team: offense, defense, and pitching. Wakefield could be great tonight but I think the Rays win the marathon in 7. Too bad their fans didn't show up all year like they did in Philly and in Boston. For that reason if the Sox don't make it I will cheer for the Philly fans - - - who deserve it!

Were you at last night's game? (sorry, I didn't go reading back)
It's been a while since last seeing the Fenway faithful so stunned... I was stunned.
You don't expect to see Lester get rocked like that at home

I was at the game last night. Last time I saw the Fenway crowd so stunned was game 3 of the 2005 ALDS vs Chicago when the Red Sox got swept at home. The only good news about the game last night was it started at 4:40pm so I was home by 9:30pm.

The season rides on Tim Wakefield tonight, and the Red Sox are facing a pitcher who they haven't scored a run against the last two times they faced him. I don't like the Red Sox chances even though Vegas has them as a pretty big betting favorite tonight. The good news about Wakefield pitching tonight is Varitek will be on the bench.

IF the Red Sox win tonight I think they take the series, with Dicek, Beckett and Lester lined up for games 5-6-7 I have to believe they can get at least 2 good starts from those 3.

Simple- win tonight, win Thursday and I will take my chances with a Beckett-Kazmir match up in game 6 with the Sox up 3-2.

But sadly I think Thursday will be the last game at Fenway this year and god willing the last home game in a Red Sox uniform for Jason Varitek and Mike Timlin.

Timlin, definitely should go.

You really can't name too many mistakes Francona has made in the post season since 2004. Timlin is a mistake. The Red Sox minor leagues are stacked with great young arms and I would have went with a David Pauley or the like over Timlin who is just worthless now. Great career. But shouldn't be on the roster now.

If it comes down to Game 6 you gotta go with Jon Lester despite last night's performance.
