Just what you want to hear a week before spring training.

Curt Schilling could be lost for season

I heard the team is trying to void his contract. (Saw it on boston.com) but I may have missed it in this article.

Isn't he about 90? If he's out for the season his career is probably over.

Statistically it is no big loss . . .

I viewed the Schilling deal as something for the playoffs. There are few pitchers I want going in the post season other than Schilling.

Of course, you lose a great locker room attitude and leader. But I viewed his regular season numbers as something numerous Double and Triple A call ups would do . . .

Post season loss is huge.

The 3-4-5 pitchers are Lester, Buchholz and Wakefield. Are you really looking for any of those 3 to have an ERA below 4.50 this season? And if DiceK doesn't improve from last season the Red Sox offence will have to score a lot of runs and won a lot of games 7-6...

Combined? Yes . . . lower than 4.50.

And there is no reason to think Dice K won't put up better numbers. Still a top 4 pitching staff in the American League.

Still too many question marks after Beckett.... can Lester and DiceK cut down on the walks, can DiceK stay away from so many high pitch count innings, Bucholz is virtually untested and they will limit his IP and can Wakefield stay healthy. If one for the 5 has to miss a start, who fills in? Julian Taravez? Like last season their bullpen will decide the fate of the season.

In a crazy way it is almost (almost) good the Sox did not trade Lester and Buccholtz for Santana as reported. If Schilling is out and Lester and Buccoltz can step up and throw a combined 350 innings their value would be greater than that of Santana's if that can manage ERA's lower than league average . . . shouldn't be hard.

Yea, esp. now that that dumb sport called football is over. The super bowl is just so lame

....And I won the Redsox.com ticket lottery for Saturday. They are putting opening day and every Yankees Fenway game on-sale, I can but 4 tickets for one game. :D
